WE'RE MOVING (UPDATE 3)
April 30th, 2012 - 2:38 am - Posted by Martin

I had a few problems getting the YaBB forum to run on the new server, but thankfully the people at A2 were available to help me sort it out.

This means that the forum now is online as well and that everything is running off the new server at A2 hosting as it was on Parodius.

You can reach the forum here.

There's still a little way to go though as I'll be moving the N64 database from the 64scener server to nesworld (where it belongs).

Once again I'd like to thank Jeremy for hosting nesworld the past decade and then some. Had he not offered to host nesworld back in the day, the site would've been long gone and I would've had a lot more spare time :-)

WE'RE MOVING (UPDATE 2)
April 28th, 2012 - 6:01 pm - Posted by Martin

Looks like the nameserver change is active now, meaning the forum will be unavailable for a while now until I'm done downloading it from Parodius and then uploading it to A2.

WE'RE MOVING
April 28th, 2012 - 11:29 am - Posted by Martin

As you may have read by now, Parodius is unfortunately shutting down at the end of August.

Instead of waiting until the last minute, I've been looking for a new home for NESWORLD the past week and have come to the conclusion that "A2 hosting" could be a future home for my site.

Right now I'm in the process of uploading everything, so if you should see a few broken links, do not worry - everything is on its way back online.

The nesworld.com domain is not yet moved to A2's nameservers, but it'll happen later today and then it'll probably take a few days before its updated everywhere in the world?

A2 was chosen as they offer everything I needed to host the site at a low price and I only have a limited amount of money to spend on hosting for the site.

PREVIEW OF PLAYPOWER ORGANIZATION GAME
April 24th, 2012 - 2:33 am - Posted by Martin

The organization called PlayPower is attempting to create and manufacture a videogame console for $10 to be used in countries where systems such as the xbox and playstation just aren't affordable with the money that is earned.

People need affordable learning games. Worldwide, 4.1 billion people earn under $3,000 per year, meaning that even a $100 computer is often out of reach for the world's emerging middle class. Playpower is targeting a $10 platform that makes learning games affordable for "the other 90%."

One of the games in development for the PlayPower system is ”Malaria: A Call to Action“ and a demo is playable on their website.

The demo ROM is available here http://playpower.org/games/malaria/gdc.nes

This is a preview of our new game where you save a village from from malaria—a widespread and deadly disease. Currently, you can swat insects and soon you will use other tools too.

An odd game, but the idea is great :-)

EVERDRIVE64 OS UPDATE 1.25
April 22nd, 2012 - 3:10 pm - Posted by Martin

I've added an ED64 OS update to my Everdrive review, here.

The update is labeled as 1.25, but it's not mentioned in the changelog file, hrmm, so it's unknown what the changes are.

The OS file is available here:

PARODIUS NETWORK CLOSING DOWN
April 21st, 2012 - 6:30 pm - Posted by Martin

Well many of you probably don't know it, but the Parodius Network has been NESWORLDs home for the past 12 years or so and then even longer than that as we had a short seperation in the late 1990's.

Parodius has not only offered hosting for my site completely free of charge for all these years. But most important of all, Parodius also supplied a steady and reliable home for my little site, so I could concentrate on adding content to the site, and for that I am truly greatful.

Today however I have received an email from Jeremy, the owner of Parodius, stating that he will be closing down at the end of August 2012 due to both financial and personal reasons.

This of course puts NESWORLD in some sort of limbo and I will be using the next couple of weeks looking for a new host. This of course means that I'll have to find some funds to pay for hosting, and I'll be working on that as well.

NESWORLD is not going to dissapear, no need to worry - in case you were :-)

Please do not contact me about hosting the site, I need to do this on my own but I thank you for your intentions if you were going to contact me about that matter.

To follow the host changes, please follow the thread below....

I really can't thank you, Jeremy, enough for your generosity over the years, you've helped me with site issues that went above my knowledge and you shown support my site for so many years, I really can't thank you enough - if it wasn't for you NESWORLD would've been gone from the face of the internet year ago.

All good things end... but NESWORLD is not done yet.

Thanks for reading and all the best to you Jeremy... and thank you Parodius!

NES ROM RELEASE: EXPLODING FIST
April 19th, 2012 - 7:18 pm - Posted by Martin

Over at Lost Levels they've released two versions of Way of the Exploding Fist for the Nintendo Entertainment. While one of them is already out there in the shape of a reproduction, the second rom turns out to be a later revision of the game which also reveals Tradewest as publisher.

For more info and downloads, click on the link below.

Quite awesome and well worth checking out one of the the games we never got to play back in the day.

Thanks to Lost Levels for the releases.

75 reproduction carts were made with the "early" version of the game, but I'm not sure how many that were actually sold, the owner of the proto and reproductions seems to have dissapeared.

This game is to use the MMC3 chip, something never used before with a NES homebrew, unless I'm mistaken of course. Anyway a video of the work in progress has been posted on youtube.
