Announced at E3 1999 as a Gremlin Interactive release, planned for October that year. This however might have been a typo in a Magazine.
In 2000 Swedish magazine "Bilsport" posted an interview with Fredrik Liljegren of Digital Illusions (well basicly a rewrite of a press release), developer of Rally Masters, who confirmed that PSX and
PC versions were on track, but that Infogrames, who were going to publish Rally Masters cross-platform, had after an in depth analysis of the N64 market decided to withdraw from publishing Rally Masters
both in Europe and the US for the Nintendo64. This meant that Digital Illusions were allowed to search for another publisher for the Nintendo64 version.
Rally Masters was supposed to feature, and probably does so in both the PSX and PC versions...
22 vehicles from rally groups old and new.
Selectable color schemes for vehicles.
23 real rally drivers -- new, WRC and legends.
51 tracks.
Four championship game modes.
Four-player simultaneous play.
Real-time on-screen vehicle damage.
Reflection mapping on cars.
Custom championship editor.
Digital Illusions had already estimated an income from the N64 version in 2000, meaning that the game had to be complete, or pretty close to when Infogrames decided scrap the N64 variation and withdraw
from the N64 market entirely.
Rally Masters was to be rebranded as "Test Drive Rally" for the US release, the European PSX release became "Michelin Rally Masters"
A publisher for the N64 version was never found and the game vanished into the vault at Digital Illusions, which now is owned by Electronic Arts, no pictures seems to have surfaced other than the ones posted
by Total Magazine.
