Konami's VRC6 and VRC7 chip

Are these chips only compatible with an original or AV Famicom, or are there also clones which supports them. I've read the NES isn't compatible with these chips.

I'm pretty sure that they are compatible with an original Famicom.

They'll work fine on a nes with a famicom converter, but if the game has extra sound you'll miss out on that sound.
