An N64 version of Battle Sports was initiated at Cyclone before the project eventually turned into Battletanx
The idea to make an N64 version came about sometime early 1997. The game was supposed to be 3DO's first game for the N64 and when asked how long it would be before gamers would be able to
see a working version of Battle Sports 2, Greg Richarsdson, Studio 3DO's vice president and producer, told IGN the following.
We'd like to support it [the upcoming version of Battlesport]," Richardson said. "We're going to make it, it's just a matter of how and when
But then....
After looking at the games already available, 3DO decided that a tank game in
the line of Tokyo Wars would be just the right thing for a console flooded by racers and "wacky" platformers. (IGN)
3D0's Battletanx originally began its life as a Nintendo 64 version of the company's popular title, Battle Sport -- at least, sort of. According to Battletanx's
designer Michael Mendheim, the company had every intention of porting Battle Sport to Nintendo 64, but decided that it might not be the right product for the console
after running into problems with their marketing department. So instead, Mendheim opted to combine the multiplayer elements of Mario Kart 64 with the destructive fun of
the arcade title Tokyo Wars and Battletanx was born. (N64paradise)
And that is pretty much all there is to it, the game probably never existed in any playable form, no screenshots were leaked to the press at least.
