Roto Gunner is Official
Former Super NES developers take on a helicopter game on Nintendo 64
January 23, 1997
by IGN StaffTecMagik confirmed today development for Roto Gunner, a fast-paced arcade-style helicopter game for Nintendo 64.
Still a working title, Roto Gunner is in the earliest of stages, and sources at TecMagik maintain that because it's still in pre-alpha form, the title won't show at E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) this June. In fact, it's likely that the game won't appear in 1997.
Wild Choppers be Seta and Ultra Combat from GT Interactive make up the other helicopter titles appearing on Nintendo 64, and thus TecMagik, which created Agassi Tennis and Pink Panther (among other games) for Super NES, will already have ample competition.
"We're changng our focus," the source, who asked to stay anonymous, said. "Now, with the technological capabilities of the N64, everyone is developing in 3D. We believe a sim game will best take advantage of the N64 technology and the 3D environments."
