IRONSWORD CONCEPT ART
February 13th, 2009 - 1:22 pm - Posted by Martin Comments: 0

Ste Pickford has updated the Pickford Brothers website with a piece of concept art from a game Zippo Games once made for Rareware, called Ironsword... ever heard of it? :-)

Here's what he wrote on the website:

I uploaded the finished graphics from the game a few weeks ago (see link below pic), and here's the original concept art.

This was a sketch of The Eagle King for the Ironsword game design doc we pitched to Rare. I think we already had the contract at this point, but we were keen to impress so did more concept art for this game than was typical around the time (1987).

Other than a single screen mockup (which I always hated doing - the concept art equivalent of the dreaded vertical slice), we tended to design graphics as and when we drew them for the game, rather than having anything like a pre-production phase, as is more typical now.

Designing characters and enemies in advance, on paper, was fairly unusual back then.

UNEXPECTED DOWNTIME
February 12th, 2009 - 4:34 pm - Posted by Martin Comments: 0

As some may have noticed, the entire site was offline from monday evening to thursday evening (CET) this week.

The downtime came totally unexpected and while I'm not really interested in going into details, the downtime caused quite a bit of reworking of the site before it could go online again.

Well it's finally back and I'd like to thank Jeremy, who runs the Parodius Network, for once again being a great help, so thanks :-)

DPAD HERO - A SHOCKER OF A ROCKER ... NEW HOMEBREW!
February 2nd, 2009 - 6:05 pm - Posted by Martin Comments: 0

Holy mother F.. (beep) the long lost NES coder Kent Hansen aka. Snowbro is back with yet another jawdropper. With that said I better add that Andreas Pedersen helped make this game.

DPad Hero is a NES version of Guitar Hero which of course doesn't include a guitar but instead a regular NES joypad is used. The music in DPad Hero rocks bad ass featuring 4 songs, and the game looks like a professional release - I think they dream of bringing this game to the Wii which I think would be cool but there might be some copyright issues to deal with? :-)

Sweet Child of Mine (Guns n' Roses)
Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (Daft Punk)
The Way You Make Me Feel (Michael Jackson)
The Swing of Things (A-Ha)

Version 1.0 (RC1) of DPad Hero is available at www.dpadhero.com but is of course also mirrored here at NESWORLD. If you like this release then please do me a favour and donate these guys a few bucks for their hard work...

Thanks once again to Snowbro for kicking NES ass :-)

SLIGHT UPDATE OF THE PIRATE HARDWARE SECTION
February 2nd, 2009 - 5:45 pm - Posted by Martin Comments: 0

I'm truly sorry for my recent absense from the site, it surely hasn't been intentional but I guess the long dark evenings/nights finally got me, cause my energy bar has totally bottomed out.

Anyway I have made a small update to the pirate hardware page which should display everything a bit more organized.

January unfortunately didn't receive a Game Spotlight as planned but February is on track and while it may not be the game originally intended to go on the site, it will instead be a review of a brand new - old Nintendo game by Color Dreams released by NintendoAge' NationalGamesDepot.... yes it's the amazing release of Happy Camper so stay tuned in :-)
