A few NES games were translated to other languages, although doing so at that time wasn't "normal" to do. Probably the most weird translations were the swedish ones, since it's a small market compared to others, like the German. Well on this page you'll see those PAL games which were released in other languages than english.
Oh and the screenshots on this page are not done by a NES emulator, they're shots from the actual carts done with a TV tuner card for the PC and a NES clone (Super Com 72).
MANIAC MANSION (IN SWEDISH)
Released all over scandinavia instead of the english text version. I'm a huge fan of Maniac Mansion and back when the NES version was released I was jumping of joy. On the back of the box there were/are screenshots from the english version and the text was english too. Well I bought the game and rushed home. I quickly inserted it into the NES to find out that the game was completely in swedish (aaaargh! it didnt say anywhere on the box that it was in swedish!).
DEJA VU (IN SWEDISH)
Kemco was another company who also released a couple of swedish games, which by the way also were distributed all over scandinavia instead of the english version (bah!). The shots below are in english as I do not own the swedish one (it has the right shots on the back so I avoided buying it back when it was released and got the english version instead, bah! and now the swedish version is a collectors item and impossible to find around here).
PRINCE OF PERSIA (IN GERMAN)
Yeah Yeah there isn't much text in this game, but it was translated anyway, kinda. Kinda? Yep! it isn't translated 100% because the screen with continue/new game is still in english, the programmer forgot to change it? hmmm.
THE SMURFS (IN GERMAN/ENGLISH/SPANISH/FRENCH)
Same here, not a lot of text to be translated, in fact just the title and stage name, but infogrames always release their games with a with the option of selecting language (the typical 4 above).
ASTERIX (IN GERMAN/ENGLISH/SPANISH/ITALIAN/FRENCH)
Woop! select between 5 languages! and this time there was a little text to translate. (sorry, no screenshots of the actual game, the NES clone I've connected to my PC obviously doesnt like Asterix much because the screen totally screws up).
LINUS SPACEHEAD'S COSMIC CRUSADE (IN ENGLISH/GERMAN/FRENCH/SPANISH)
Codemasters made their cool platform/adventure game in 4 different languages to choose from. However since Linus Spaceheads Cosmic Crusade never was released anywhere in Europe, except English, what good is it? Absolutely brilliant!? ;)
KIRBY'S ADVENTURE (IN GERMAN)
In the early 1990's the German Nintendo market became more powerful and Nintendo of Europe was formed. This ment that quite a few SNES titles were translated for the German market, and a few late-area NES games also went that way. One of them is Kirby's Adventure, one of the best NES games imo.
