Hy there nesworld fans,
This is the infamous Dutchnesgamer a.k.a. The Real Piece Of Work and im
back with my second review.
This time Im going to put a nes game in the spotlight that even Martin
doesn't have in fact i think i outbid him on the ebay auction about a year
ago for this rare and "great' Game. What game im talking about? Gluk the
thunder warrior from gluk video. Now i can hear you guys think.. gluk
video...? Never heard of it.
Let me fill you in..Gluk video is an unlicend company, just like more
common unlicend companies like color dreams, ave, Hes etc. But gluk video
stayed unnoticed by most nes collectors for 2 reasons. 1.Gluk video was
based in Spain and only in Spain did they released there games. 2. Spain
is know for there shit load of pirate nes games and most people mistaken
them for pirates.
Gluk video published many games ,some you might know from other companies
(puzzle,f15 city war)but they developed only 1 game : our spotlight
game=Gluk the thunder warrior. I bought this game from ebay not only
because its a rare game and a nice add on for my collection. But also
because i thought this game might be something special, because it was
developed and published by gluk video and it featured there mascot the
green ant.
But there was nothing special about this grey platformer thats
actually a hacked game. Thats right, after some searching i found out this
game was actually a hacked version of a pirate game called thunder warrior
and the only thing these lazy bums did was replacing the main hero for the
green ant.
Ok maybe thats all they needed to do,i mean super mario bros 2 is also a
hacked game and thats great. But after playing this game i can hardly say
anything positive. When you start this rip off game you see a intro thats
stolen from castlevania. After that you start in the first of 9 levels and
those levels we have al seen before ,you now the deal cave, fire, sky, water
level. And thats not all,the enemies look a lot and act the shame like
enemies from the megaman, smb and castlevania series. The world/level map
is taken from jackie chan game and the bonus level game is exactly the
shame as the 1 from super mario land 2 for the gameboy.
Then there are 3 big bosses in the game at level 3.6 and 9 that follow a
simple patern and are easy to beat. Nothing looks original, you have all
seen it before and if that doesn't bother you the music and the control of the game will.
The music isn't ripped from another game but my god i wish the did.You can
even heardly call it music ,its bleeping speeded up nes sound that repeat
every 10-15 seconds. If heard a lot of terrible nes music but this 1 takes
the cake .
Time to talk about the controls.
The controls act like they where ripped from cheetahmen 2 and if you know
that game you know thats not a good thing. They are way tho sensitive with
jumping, walking and avoiding enemies and are a little bit delayed. You can
work with the controls in the first levels but later on with stronger
enemies and harder jumping actions on platforms it becomes true horror.
Because in these later levels a wrong jump means death and starting at the
beginnig of the level no halfway point here people. The game even has
bugs/glitches,because i got stuck and the game reseted it self.INCREDIBLE
i didn't even know the nes could do that.
Ok time to wrap this game up and tell you why i have put this garbage in
the spotlight. 1 word NOSTALGIA. Gluk the thunder warrior is not a good
game but its also not bad enough.Confused? Its like this i love great
games like smb 3,zelda etc. but i also love games like action 52 and
cheetahmen 2 because there so bad there good.
Gluk the thunder warrior
falls exactly between these 2 extremes and i would call it frustrating
like hell. And that brings back memories because as a kid, games like this
made me bite on my controler, power on/ off my console 20 times, and take
out the cart and throw it threw my room. Lets just close this spotlight
saying that gluk the thunder warrior is a rare, but not a fun game and
some things never change even when your years older .
