Atari Games developed Xybots way back in 1987. It was originally an arcade game but was later ported to various platforms, including the Nintendo Entertainment
System. The plot of that game is that the players, Major Rock Hardy and Captain Ace Gunn, must fight an army of robots, called Xybots, to save the humans
from being destroyed. Everything takes place in some sort of maze where yo basicly just run around shooting enemies until you reach the next level, when a
player dies the screen simply says games over and you're done.
The NES version is dated back to 1990 and was programmed by Lisa Ching, and supposedly was completed. However rumors say that a release of the game was declined,
as a test group at Tengen didn't feel that people would want to buy the game. Like a few other unreleased Tengen games Xybots appeared in magazine ads and
Fantasy Zone even had a poster included which featured the Xybots box art, the one you see to the left on this page.
Some years ago a prototype of Xybots surfaced from the storage of an old video game magazine. In 2007 the game binary was released for the public by Lost Levels,
so I suggest that you check our their website if you'd like to give the game a try. Personally I found it quite boring and do understand why Tengen decided not
to waste any ROM chips on this one.
