Title: YOUR TOP 10 FAMICOM (that didn't see a US release) Post by cavein2000 on 26. Jul 2006 at 04:57
So I've always been a huge fan of the NES, and recently started to pick up some famicom stuff. Not sure if this thread already exists, but figured I'd give it a shot. Anyway, let us know what your top 10 favoritie famicom games are that did not see a US release or greatly differ from the corresponding US title.

I haven't played as many as others on here, but I'll give you the short list of those I have that I like:
Don Doko Don Galaxian (don't know if it counts -- U.S. arcade) Goonies Joy Mech Fight King Kong 2: Ikari no Megaton Punch Rodland (don't know if that counts -- since it's PAL) SD Battle Oozumou: Heisei Hero Basho SD Hero Soukessen: Taose! Aku no Gundan SonSon Super Mario Family ’92: 10 in 1 (don't know if pirates count -- but it's got Super Mario World and the Lost Levels) Heck -- that's ten! Alright. |

Right on. Son Son is a game that interested me, There is also a sequel on the PCE. That Mario pirate cart seems cool too. The Little Mermaid song - "A Whole New World" comes to mind and I suddenly feel very gay. :-[
Right now I've only got - Wanpaku Graffiti, Kid Dracula and a couple of the Kunio games - Haven't been disappointed yet. Hopefully I can have a top 10 in a couple months. |

Damn, awesome. I can't wait to get Wanpaku. I've heard good things about it. And I've got a mint Kid Dracula here that won't crappity smacking work. But I've heard it's cool, too.
Oh, and Famicom is wonderful for pirates. Oooooo, I love Famicom pirates -- looking for Sonic the Hedgehog, Power Rangers, Boogerman, Super DK, Kart Fighter, Earthworm Jim, Time Diver Avenger. |

Speaking of pirates - I don't know if this is classed as one but there are two "fami-collection" games for the PC Engine that are documented but I have never seen. the 5-in-1 and 6-in1 fami-collection. Anyone know of these? I would love to see a pic of the game/case!

Oh yeah, and here is a video of Kid Dracula (someone beating it in a ridiculous time). Don't watch too much- it'll spoil the fun.

Hey JL, is it possible to play Sweet Home if you don't know Japanese? I thought it was RPG-esque and RPGs are impossible without knowing the -ese.

Someone created a patch for it that I saw online somewhere - but you would need to use emulation to play it that way. I would pay to have someone translate it and put it on a cartridge somehow - I'm sure it could be done, no? That game is supposed to be very good - the precursor to resident evil, both by capcom.

I saw this on utube the other day. Really makes me want to try Joy Mech Fight (the one that they're made of floating balls):

That's a cool mix. I had been wondering what the game play on some of those would be like. And Joy Mech -- really fun because of all the different special powers that each character has, like raining fire from the sky, shockwaves through the ground and extended arms, etc.

Gradius II
Tetris 2 + BomBliss Goonies Yie Ar Kung Fu Umm... that's it. I'd like to play the Famicom version of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde because I've read on GameFaqs that there's more variety to the levels. Oh, & Star Wars. |

It's far more superior to the first one. It also comes in big box with contoller like the first one.
Wonder why it only was released in Japan cause it's such a cool game. |

I just picked up the Vaus controller for the first one last week, so I've been playing Arkanoid pretty much non-stop. It can be a difficult game to master. I'll be excited to try out Arkanoid 2 whenever I come across a cheap one.

I'm guessing the controller goes well with it?

I thought you already owned Arkanoid with the controller? But, yes, it goes very well because you are able to move from side to side much faster. I just wish it had a pause button.

I have that cart, but it doesn't have Super Mario World on it. It does have Super Mario IV, the hack of Armadillo. NESaHolic: Power Blade 2 was also released in the US. Or is the famicom version much different? Favorites: Joy Mecha Fight Ike Ike! Nekketsu Hockey Bu: Subette Koronde Dairantou Moai-Kun Yume Penguin Monogatari |

True about the Family cart...I thought it had Mario World, but then when finally got around to loading it up I discovered the truth.
And is the fat penguin game in English, or playable. I've been interested for a while in picking that up. I figured it'd be difficult to play because I assume it's like a RPG. |
