Title: Portable NES Post by Jedi QuestMaster on 29. Jul 2006 at 19:04
Who was that person who was making portable NES units? I remember there was a website somewhere.
I think this was the same person: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8288844305&sspagename=ADME:L:RTQ:US:1 |

Most likely the same guy ye, hes called Ben Heck.
He makes alot of cool stuff, but i dont quite like the one you linked too. The A and B button looks so strange placed that it looks hard to press both buttons at ones (like holding in B to run and A to jump). |

Yeah, I did question that myself. There was another model on Ebay with better looking button placement, but the cart insertion was horizontal, with the cartridge facing up.
I have a list of qualities I'm looking for in a handheld NES. |

This guy isn't Ben Heck. I thought he was too but I contacted him and he makes them from the 'How To' book Ben Heck wrote. I was going to buy one off him but funds ran short and had to put it on the back burner :(

I mean the guy who made it, not the seller on Ebay :) But i see now that it says:
"Inspired by video game hacking genius Benjamin Heckendorn I built this unit from scratch with a unique circular design that suits the unit well." |

I think the unit looks damn cool. The only thing that bothers me are the crappy washers on the backside.

Ah, so it isn't old Ben. (Star Wars ref) But does Ben Heck still sell those? I saw some pretty interesting models, including the nPod.

Don't know. I tried to contact him directly from his website and never got a reply. He has a lot of different styles that are pretty cool.

I'm not trying to sound too picky, but I'm looking for these qualities:
-Headphone Jack & Built-in Speakers -Good Sound Quality -Volume Control -Clear Crisp Screen (Decent Size) -Button Placement -Good Battery Life -Cartridge Insertion (Vertical) -Toploading Capabilities (No Lockout Chip/PAL Capable/Tight Pins) -Size/Shape (Not too big or awkward) -Reset Button? (Not necessary, but it''d be nice) -AC Input Anything I missed that's important? I doubt I'll need the ability to play 2 players or use a lightgun so those can go. |
