No, The Famicom Data Recorder was used to record games and sounds you made with the Famicom BASIC. It turns out the Data Recorder is harder to find than the Famicom BASIC keyboard itself...

Old thread, but..

You know the mysterious save/load option in Excitebike, Wrecking Crew, Mach Rider, Lode Runner?  That's for the Famicom Data Recorder.

Yeah, and you could also use it to record data you made on the BASIC aswell. I think there's a full list of games out there that use the save/load option, but I don't remember the URL anymore.
