Post by TheFinalDayComes on 31. Aug 2006 at 08:12
I noticed that there are two different versions. One with all the names on the label and other with a 15 on I think :-?. anyways which one is rarer and what are the average prices of each.

The one with the 15 on it is rarer, the other one is the PAL version and more common.

Actually there are 2 versions of the American Video Entertainment release and two versions of the Home Entertainment Suppliers release. All 4 are NTSC format as it's an unaltered release HES released in Australia. HES releases has all game titles written on the label, while the AVE releases only says "Maxi 15".

The AVE release with Blackjack and Death Race (which replaced Pyramid and Double Strike as AVE didn't have a license to include these on a multicart) is the most rare of the two AVE releases. This release is also known as "Version 2". Version 2 also has a different intro screen.

Of the two HES releases, version 2 is the most common though :-)

Actually there are 3, or possibly 4 HES variations :) The 2 version martin mentioned above is in those hardcase "VHS" covers, but there is also a cartboard version. I have one of these, its the version 2. The cartridge and manual is the exact same thats included in the VHS case tho. I dont know if a cartboard box version of version 1 excist.

Wouldn't really call it a version variation, as the rom probably is the same. Cool to know that a cardboard box exist... got a picture by any chance?

Ye i know, its a cartboard box variation, not ROM :) Sure, here is a pic of it:

As you can see, the manual and cart is exactly the same as the VHS box version. I wonder which got released first, or maybe they were out at the same time?

Wow! it looks very cool :-)

I have a feeling that the cardboardboxes came last.... HES wanted their releases to look more like original NES game releases, so they would look more like original Nintendo software

Either that or they discovered it wasn't cost-effective to produce a plastic case when a plain cardboard box was cheaper to make...

Cool stuff, thanks for the pics jajaja.  I also didn't know that this box variant existed.  I just added it to the game list.

No problem :) Ye, thats 2 good possibilities why they made the cartboard boxes, to blend in with the official NES games and to save money.
