I searched for an older thread on this but didn't find what I was looking for, does anyone know where to buy a battery holder, or even a spot welded assembly that would be an exact fit for an NES cart? I don't want to use a cheap hack like a paper clip or tape.

Take a look into the Developer's Lounge. I can't imagine that it's that hard to find a battery holder in the US.

Finding the holders is a piece of cake, but there are dozens of varieties. I just wonder if someone's already narrowed the field.

Ok, I know what you mean. Sorry, I can't help, but any 3V Lithium Cell ( Typ C 2032 or so ) should work. Buy a holder for a 3V cell, the small differences between the cells don't matter.
