Title: Do you let people touch your collection? Post by 350F on 14. Oct 2006 at 08:29
I'm kinda anal retentive when it comes to my collection. Not that I have that many games yet (almost 100), but they are all neatly organized. I have them in alphabetical order and all facing the same direction. But everytime someone comes over and wants to play, the insist on looking at every game. And then putting them back in the wrong spot and upside down. Does this drive everyone else crazy? >:(
Also, what kind of feedback do you get from friends/family? My mom and g/f think its a waste of money. Most of my friends think its cool because they all grew up on the NES and it brings back old memories. 8-) Then they claim they are going to get their old systems out and play them. I don't think they ever do...but i'd like to snatch up all their games. :D |

Hehe....funny question. I don't let people touch my stuff or at least the rare stuff and any sealed games. Don't want any of that getting ruined. The commons I don't mind.

I feel you. All mine are in alpha order and facing the same way. I love when people want to play games, but I don't want them getting the games out so much, I have to much invested in this for them to get messed up. Especially if it is a rare box and manual. It KILLS me when someones does get a game down, and then puts in back in the wrong place, or in the wrong direction. I mean really, they are all facing the same way, is it really that hard to do? >:(

Exact same here. All of my games are neatly organized and in alphabetical order. The same goes for my DVD library.
I guess I'm not the only one in here with a slight touch of OCD! ;D |

I never let anyone touch my collection...because of the reasons above. People are stupid and lazy sometimes...

I am the messy gamer. I cleaned out underneith my couch and found a prototype that I hadn't seen in a while... I don't really care if anyone goes through my games and stuff.
I also do a lot of electronic projects with video game stuff and I can't stand if anyone moves my or projects or tools. I guess it's more of the fact that the systems and games are just playthings, where the hacking stuff is more "serious". |

My rares are mostly in plastic cases so people can look at them behind the plastic, lol j/k.
I usually like to do it all myself but don't care that much about the commons like said above. |

I'm kindof the same way (although I'm sure you have friends, wrldstrman!) It's not that I wouldn't let anyone touch or play my games, but my friends and family could really care less. Plus, I have so many games now that I can't find anything big enough to house them in one place, so they are boxed up anyways. Once in a blue moon, my wife will want to play Super Mario, but once the first Goomba kills her, she has had enough. I do have one pet peeve that nobody is mentioned: when others put down or store controllers (especially N64, Dreamcast, and PS1 Dual Shock), I can't stand it when the analog stick has tension on it, ie it's all the way to one side because it's up against something. Drives me crazy. Nobody but me gets why that's bad! |

Sealed stuff is totally off limits to people.
Stuff in boxes can be touched, but only I am allowed to take manuals and games out of boxes, so no one else than me can be blamed for any damage that might happen when doing so. (So kind of me) Everything else is pretty much standing there in a few shelves like a nice library where people can go look through the shelves and find themselves some entertainment. |

My whole collection is on display on shelves and book cases. I don't mind if my friends look and play with them however what I hate is when they take a game down to play get tired of it and grab another game without putting the last game back. after a while there over a dozen games on the floor all the contents of the boxes are all over the place mixed with every other game on the floor >:(

The people that I have over all know how anal I am about them...at one point I had them organized by publisher, so they pretty much got me to reshelve things. Right now they're alphabetical so they know where shit goes. I'm constantly rearranging my NES stuff though, so I don't really care too much if my stuff gets touched.

First by publisher/developers, then alphabetical. Since it's kind of hard to find the games you're looking for, I can safely say that people won't touch my collection.

Hi, I'm new!
Anyway, I don't really mind when my friends touch my collection. I enjoy collecting, but I'm not to the point where I'm wearing dust-free suits in a vaccuum or anything. But then again, I don't really have anything that is more than a 5/10 in rarity, so maybe when I get those super rare things I'll feel differently. But for now, grab a game, throw it in and we'll have some fun. Just don't rip up my manuals for rolling paper. |

I'm the same I don't really mind if people play the games just as long as they put them back in there right spot. I hate it when my games aren't in alphabetical order. Anyway I have 2 nephews that used to come over and play it a lot and they would leave my games everywhere and that really pissed me off so they have become banned from playing my nes games. But I let them play my 360 & PS3 so they don't mind.

That is part of the reason why I collect cart-only. I would rather have people enjoying my games. It's also gotten to the point where I can't house the collection in it's entireity in one house, so they have never been in alphabetical order or otherwise. I've got a hard copy checklist and an online one, so I can still figure out what I have and don't have.

I've got everything in alphabetical order on a bookshelf, but I only have limited room to insert new games. So every time I get new games I have to slot the new ones in and move my W-Z's down the shelves.
One other thing that hasn't been mentioned about wires is people that wind the wires around the controller, or RF switch. I can't stand that. I fold the wire over a few times and slap a rubber band around it. Wrapping wires kills me every time. |

oops. Meant to type compartment, or something similar. I have a little over 500 unique titles, all cart-only. I sometimes think about going back to collecting completes, but I really don't want to until I devise a good way to house them all in one spot. |

I have all my boxes and manuals on a shelf with all my carts in those long shallow tupperware containers that slide under the bed. I have three of those stacked up with all my carts in alphabetical order and each container labled on the outside (A-E, F-M, ect...). I know where everthing goes and if someone wants to get something out to give it a go, I kick some ass at RBI Baseball or Tecmo Superbowl then it goes right back to R's or T's. Just don't get more than a couple out at a time. It is a pain in the ass to put them back up. People only want to play common games they remember. I have yet to have a buddy ask to play Caltron.
