I finally got a hold of Hounder on the phone. He said that they canceled their internet subscription which is why he hasn't been around or answering PM's lately. He also said that his car broke down and has started working days which is why he hasn't sent the packages yet. He did say that all of the packages will be sent today. This includes the following people:
Michiganfan2 Dain William Wizard666 - Wiz, he said he lost your address. Can you PM me with it and I'll give him a call and let him know. He did say he knew about money he owed to Elliot and that he would take care of that. He seemed pretty sincere and he does have a good history here and at other forums. I just hope he follows through on what he told me today. I will keep everyone up to date on what I find out. Thanks, Mike |

Got a mail from William today telling me no. I do trust him more than i trust David right now. sorry :'(
Gonna call David myself and ask where the airball is!.. called, no answer. whyyyyy |

Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by Michiganfan2 on 29. Nov 2006 at 01:48
FYI....the home number you gave me is incorrect. The cell number is how I got a hold of him. I also called at 10am EST so you might want to try around that time.

thanx man. got the home# from NGD I think :P if so, the adress aint right either. I know I got it somewhere.. celly# did I get from ebay hehe

Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by NationalGameDepot on 29. Nov 2006 at 02:14
The only number I had was his cell number. ;D I know Dain received his stuff also from Hounder. If he shipped it, he should have gotten a DC#. I hope this all gets worked out for Daae's sake.

Is Daae's contact overseas by chance? Might just take longer to arrive than for domestics.

Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by NationalGameDepot on 29. Nov 2006 at 02:42
William is in the US somewhere, not overseas wizard. He should have gotten it already if David sent it out. If he sent it I only assume he got a DC# and insurance to cover the 900 total...I hape anyway. I think Daae is going to call him tonight, so hopefully we will know something soon.

no more excuses. I just got of the phone with David and he told me the adress to William where lost. He sounded really surprised that I called hehe.
3pm eat tomorrow I will call the dude up and get a dc#. I belive it when I see it :-/ kind of oftopic, but I called from my celly to the US and that is $0.47/min. That aint much! :) |

Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by the_wizard_666 on 29. Nov 2006 at 03:10
I'm sure he's more surprised that you phoned him from NORWAY :P Personally, I would've had NGD or someone call on your behalf, just to skip the insane long distance charges. As for the excuse, it is pretty lame, but I've lost people's addy's before, and not having access to the 'Net tends to make getting it difficult. I'm still pretty sure he's not out to screw anyone over here...he's been a respected member of the community for a while now...

Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by NationalGameDepot on 29. Nov 2006 at 04:16
I tried calling him a few times and never got an answer. .47 a min is pretty cheap, I figured it would be much more than that to be honest. It sounds very promising though. I think it will all work out ok.

From NintendoAGE:

No reply, although the dates show he has likely seen it. Posted in the moderator forum on NESForums: (Me) Quote:
(David) Quote:
Shows he knows the payment was received. From the same thread: (me) Quote:
No reply to that, but that's understandable because he hasn't logged in on Forums since that date, although he's been on NintendoAGE since then. And from the PayPal receipt: Quote:
All I want is an acknowledgment that he sent the package out, and a rough date that it was sent out. I am pretty sure David wouldn't try to screw me over, but I'm out $266 here. 1/4 of a paycheck. And if he hasn't sent out, I just want to know why not. I'm not about to bust his nuts because he can't find the time or money to ship out yet...hell, I've been through it myself, as you well know NGD. But then, I was straight with you from the get-go. You never went more than a week without some form of contact from me. It's been over a month and a half here, and he hasn't said a word to me. Incidently, what sealed game does he owe Dain? There's a few that are due to me, and I want to make sure that there's no funny shit going on. (EDIT: I found out from Dain himself...not one of the ones pending to me) |

Wizard, just wanted to know if you got in touch with hounder yet.
I also wanted to add that I`ve traded with him 1 or 2 times and he seemed to be a very nice guy so I don`t think he`s trying to screw you. Did you pay through paypal? |
|
Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by the_wizard_666 on 27. Jun 2007 at 21:21
Haven't heard from him yet. From what I hear, he's on vacation, so he probably won't be around for a little bit anyway. I've dealt with David before too, so I know he's good for it, I just haven't heard from him in so long. Doesn't matter how good a guy's been in the past, when you're talking this kind of money you always worry. And yeah, I paid through PayPal, but it's been too long to file a claim, and I really don't want to have to do that with David. I really just want him to send me a message and let me know what's going on...once he's back from NY that is :P
|
|
Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by Jordan MacNamara on 27. Jun 2007 at 21:35
If you paid with your credit card you can still file a claim.
I did it around a year ago when paypal wouldn`t refund my money,I got the total refunded (around 330$). I wouldn`t recommend it for small amounts because it`s a lot of phone calls and faxes to get your money back. As I mentioned,I`m sure he`ll get in touch with you but it`s still good to know you have that option. |
|
Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by the_wizard_666 on 28. Jun 2007 at 09:52
I'm not sure if I used my credit card or not. I'll have to check. I agree though, I don't want to do that except as a last resort. I just want to make sure he's not dead and that he'll send out when he can.

It would be a shame if he's turned into an idiot due to some kind of personal problems. I seem to remember I had good dealings with him in the past, but I can't remember for certain if we ever traded or sold anything together.

Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by Speedy_NES on 28. Jun 2007 at 19:52
He does tend to disappear a lot. I have no problem when people have personal issues as we all go through them once in a while, but they should still maintain contact. I've heard quite a few good things from other people about Hounder, not to mention his participation in the NES scene, but I don't have such a good image of him anymore since the end of last year. He was my first Myriad buyer, and we had a deal set etc. After a few setbacks I decided to give him more time but then he suddenly disappeared from all the boards, and when he came back, IIRC a month or two later, he never bothered to reply to any of my outstanding pms to apologize or anything of the sort. That's the reason why my Myriad went up for sale again, and I'm glad that it finally found a good home, but I've learned my lesson with Hounder. I'm not trying to ruin his rep anymore than it is, but I also had a bad experience with him and thought you should know.

Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by Limbofunk on 28. Jun 2007 at 23:19
This has always bugged me, so I figured I would finally post about it. Speedy, you apologizing for posting what you did in the above message annoyed me a bit more that I usually get in regards to this. If you have had a bad transaction with someone (if you honestly feel it's legitimate) post about it! If you know something they did in the past that was pretty shady, and think a newcomer who you see is about to do a rather large or significant transaction with them and you feel they should know about it, I really don't see why some people have such a problem with it being brought up.
It's great if they cleaned up their act after they were caught doing whatever they were doing, but it's frustrating as anything when someone says 'Hey, just so you know this guy was caught doing _____ x number of years ago. After it was all said and done, he made up for what he did, blah blah blah.' and is suddenly blasted by a few people with comments like 'Dude, that's old news and doesn't need to be brought up, stop trying to create trouble.' Now, in the same token I'm not a fan of people popping in to slam and flame anyone; warning everyone never to deal with them and trying to cause a ruckus. But that's quite a bit different than explaining a situation that happened just to inform someone new and unaware. I don't think I have a problem with anyone on this board and have never had a rude or crude comment made towards a member ( Not even metalzone if anyone remembers him :) ) but I do know that I like to stay informed about what people have done and how trades and sales go amongst members. I don't like to see people apprehensive about making a comment about a member (that's based on facts) because they feel either they are going to get flamed in return or 'hushed' because whatever it was was in the past and doesn't matter anymore. Sorry to rant and jack the thread a little bit...as far as Hounder goes, I have never had a chance to trade with him. I have heard a lot of positive things about him, but also a negative here and there on this and a few other forums. |

Read it and what a bunch of bullshit. So his response is that he was just a lazy guy? Wow, how heartfelt. I skimmed it pretty quick, so unless I missed something this is a decent damper on my opinion of the scene anymore. It's been going downhill for awhile and for a pretty respected member to ditch it is lame.

Well, INTERPOL is just an email away...
And Stan, I know how you feel man...This is the second time in 6 months that I've been ripped off. In 3 years it hadn't happened to me before. If I was collecting for any reason other than my love of the NES, I'd just sell my shit and be done with it. This hobby's almost becoming too much of a hassle these days. |

I've added my 2 cents in a letter on the main (news) page of this website. I'm surprised by how low morrale some people have, I've been ripped off twice lately by people from this very forum... in the future I won't be dealing with anyone I don't already know, on ebay I'll have to take my chances though...
Wtf is wrong with people.... they'll do anything to make a buck? no matter how they have do do it? |

Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by NationalGameDepot on 23. Jul 2007 at 14:16
I guess greed is human nature but that is no excuse at all. I hate a scammer and I hate someone who would steal from someone else. With this hobby and life all we really have is our word and our ingetrity, and money can't put a price on that. I hope Hounder realizes that and takes the steps needed to make it right with people.
Martin I am so glad you wrote that on the homepage cause I really do hope it might make a potential future scammer thing twice. You will get caught at some point and when you do it will not be pleasant. What Hounder done is mail fraud and he really could go to jail for it and have to pay stiff fines. I think that is what brought him out of the clost anyways. I sent him some emails and I know Dain and wiz both left he voice mails. Tis a sad day for the NES community, Hounder had a nack like I have never seen for finding graet stuff and my own collection would be missing some very cool stuff if it wasn't for trades with him. ~~NGD |
|
Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by Dain on 23. Jul 2007 at 15:22
Yeah, I left him a voice mail, hoping to just talk to him. I'm not out to scold him or what not, but just wanted to see what's up lately as this doesn't make any sense to me. Why would someone who is a respected member of the community ruin that respect? I considered him a friend and entrusted him with admin privileges as NA (which I've since revoked for obvious reasons). This is definitely a hard pill to swallow for me as I really trusted Hounder.
I, too, understand that times can get rough, but stealing from your friends is not the answer. Had Hounder just asked me, I would have loaned him money to get out of a rut. I'd do that for a friend I trust even if it were against my better judgment (ie, knowing I likely wouldn't get paid back). For me, it's not about the money he owes, it's about trying to pull a fast one on a community of individuals that trusted him. Granted, I'd like to get my $100 back, but more importantly, I want him to make right with all the people involved. This community is forgiving, as we've seen to an extent with Nick, but it takes more than talk -- Hounder needs to fix what's broken, then *earn* forgiveness, which can take a long time. -Dain |

Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by xtremegamer on 23. Jul 2007 at 17:28
For a new collector in the online community this kinda thing really stinks. Of course, I always hesitate before I complete a transaction online, but we go off each others trust with these forums to help each other achieve our collection goals. I feel bad for the people who had to go through this situation and hope it never happens to me.
Martin posted a good point about collectors, you need have a story why you collect the things you do, not just because it's valuable, that's what causes greed. I collect Nintendo since it was the first system we had as a family, N64 since it was the first system I purchased myself. I have valuable things in my collection, but I would never in a lifetime use those items to scam someone. I would like to make some money off them if I did ever sell them though. I never delt with Hounder persoanally, but I looked at him as one of the super collectors like NGD. It's kinda sad to see someone you thought you would like to emulate do a thing like this. I just hope he makes good with everyone. X |
|
Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by NationalGameDepot on 23. Jul 2007 at 18:44
I agree with Martin's statement, I like to have a story behind each of my games. That means as much to me as owning some of them. I have had so many good people help me along the way and I know were there bulk of my collection has came from so each peice means something special to me. Several of us older guys have a different mentality than a lot of the newer collectors do. So many people are in such a rush to get everything they don't enjoy what they have I guess. I would love to talk to David on the phone and find out exactly what happened.

I have a feeling Hounder has more problems in his life than NES games. That's why yes I understand being mad at him, but why I also have some sadness. It's never fun to watch someone crash and burn. There's more behind this than some guy trying to rip off people. There's a reason.
|
|
Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by Martin on 23. Jul 2007 at 21:57
Or it could be the reason why he's on his way down? the guilt of having ripped off people that trusted him?...

Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by Stan Stepanic on 23. Jul 2007 at 22:18
I personally don't think this is a straight scam, I think something probably did happen to the kid that he's just not talking about. Saying he was lazy was retarded and one of the stupidest excuses I've ever heard. It really takes someone idiotic to want to just take so much money, especially from friends, so I'd bet he's got something pretty serious going on. Who knows, drugs maybe? I'm not sure, but I really hate this shit. I don't even really have an inclination to collect rarer games anymore because they're so high, but what I still don't get to this day is what in the hell has happened to this scene? I haven't been around since the beginning but I've been here quite awhile and have seen many different people come and go. It seems that since I've been here the whole thing has turned into an eBay business filled with tons of assholes. To use an example I always do, and this is what drew me more to this, the SMS community is FECKING TIGHT. Anyone even takes a manual from someone they're shit on and pretty much can forget being taken seriously ever again. There's this one guy on eBay who was a notorious asshole and eventually got caught by eBay I believe, kicked off and then started a new account. No one buys his shit though because we spread such a bad reputation about him and he's still trying to sell rare games he stole from people for three times their worth. People in that scene just don't put up with the bullshit and don't do it in the first place, I really don't get what happened to the NES scene and I can't even begin to explain what I mean, things just fell apart rapidly around three years or so after I started hanging around.

Title: Re: Paging: Hounder UPDATE! Post by NationalGameDepot on 23. Jul 2007 at 22:49
and the fact that the NES scene is about 10 times larger than SMS. SMS can have a more tight nit community cause there are less people around to collect. NES was more popular and more successful than SMS so you have to deal with more crap. Just part of it it I guess.

I decided to make the "paging Hounder thread" into Hounder's feedback thread. That way new members will always be able to see all the old posts. I will also sticky this thread till be repays all his debts.

Wow. Just came back and heard all the stuff about Hounder, and I'm sorry to hear it. Never made a transaction with him, but here are my $0.02 anyway:
NES systems and games are quickly becoming antiques, if they are not already. Not saying they don't make good collectibles, but you have to approach it a little differently to avoid fraud. People who collect old vases for example; when they buy a new piece, they usually run a background check on the person they're buying from if the person isn't well known. They also go through a service that allows them to reclaim all of their money if the other person doesn't follow through. Heck, before long, people may even be getting their cartridges appraised. Informally, at least, that's what's happening now when somebody asks about the value of something on these boards. I see this as part of an evolution of collecting for the NES. There will be more fraudsters as the stuff goes up in price and age. Unfortunately, that just comes with the territory. Sorry again though to everyone who got screwed. |
