Title: Why are thrift stores so stupid? Post by Gary on 20. Jan 2007 at 21:08
I just cannot figure out how these places price things? I went out today to 2 thift stores, and picked up a bunch of things. While looking, they have things like Tupperware marked for $12.98, 6.98 which are worth nowhere near that amount. Yet I am able to pick up a CIB Lego Star Wars Millenium Falcon for $7! This thing is at least worth $150 easy.
It seems there is no ryhme or reason to how they price things. Like they pull the figures out of their ass at random! But I am not complaing since I got such an awesome deal! ;D |

yea, i know they are retarded...literally. the places i go to have "slow" people working there. sometimes i get nes games a buck a piece and then i see them for 5.99 each, bases loaded 1 isnt worth crap. but whatever, i guess it works out in the end.

haha yea i agree! I picked up an SNES with 3 controllers, adapter and 5 games for 20 bucks!! The games were some soccer game, 2 football games, super mario world and starfox...sports games are turbo lame but i think it was a steal anyway.
I got all that for 20 bucks and they want like 60 bucks for a piss stained tan color couch with brown flowers on it. Its great when you go to one of these places or a garage sale and the ppl there dont realize what they have. |

Was the soccer game the one by Capcom? If so, I wouldn't call that sports game a lame game.

Well.. i wouldnt call them retarted or stupid, just unknowing. Im not that familiar with thift stores, but its some used shop and they get tons of different things in right? Like if someone had given me a coin or a stamp, i would never know if its worth $1 or $1000.
I'd say it takes too much time and resource to get experts to check out everything they get in. They make profit on the stuff they sell anyway :) |

Maybe stupid was a little harsh in this instance, maybe no common sense would be better. Not even unknowing. I know some of the ones here do research on eBay because they have put up printouts from auctions to show how much their piece of whatever has sold on eBay for. And every single one now has a "Collectible" section where they pull out the stuff that they feel is antique/or worth more. So they do some research, maybe they just don't do enough sometimes.

Ah ok, didnt know that. I dont live in USA tho and as i said, i'm not familiar with these stores hehe. Maybe when they get something rare, they just browse Ebay quick and if they dont find it they just put a low price. If thats so i agree it can be stupid, but maybe more on the lazy side hehe.
