Title: New NES Collector Post by Undead98 on 03. Feb 2007 at 23:21
Hi everyone! Figured I'd introduce myself. I'm 28 years old, been around since the Atari 2600 days. As a kid growing up I had 40-50 NES games, eventuallyt raded them in for newer and newer games eventually leaving me with nothing to show for it. :'(
My wife and I were talking one night about things we regretted and this popped up. My wife told me I should look into getting a NES again with some games. My 3 and 5 year old boys are exactly the age where NES is great for them, so I picked up an action set NIB off eBay (yes, I wanted NIB if possible to avoid yellowing and such. Want my kids to to have it just like it was meant to be). I also just picked this lot up to get started collecting: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=230087301890&rd=1&rd=1 Look forward to talking and learning with you all! |

That's what I assumed too. Instead of buying games fo $5-10 per on eBay, I figured I'd buy "lots" to work my collections up first. Of course making sure those lots have some good titles to keep me and the kids interested. Few classics I need to find (more than I want to spend for singles right now) are Punch-Out, Techmo Bowl, Dragon Warrior, etc... the obvious favorites. For the first time in a LONG time, I'm dragging the family to a flea market tomorrow to scout NES games. Thanks again for the warm welcome! |

I just started collecting nes in december myself.Im up to like 115 games about now , found about half of them in the wild and got most of the rest from ebay.I bought alot of them as singles and ended up spending more than i wanted too.Lots is probably the way to go.

welcome Undead, hope you enjoy your stay here. I also bought lots when i first got started which I recconmend cuz your odds of having most of them are slim but once you get more, sadly you will be forced to start buying singles....or make some trades here.

Welcome! You got a nice start with that lot. Your kids will have a great time playing, assuming they can get mom and dad away from it. Enjoy the site. There are a lot of great people here and everyone is very friendly and most very knowledgable.

Thanks. I'm still looking over the board for new information I might not have known. Its great to be back into the NES and start working on the collection. My wife loves it since the less-rare games are a great price where she won't mind me picking a few up every now and again. I haven't informed her on my need for a few special NIB ones I want to pick up eventually. ;D |

Hey, always nice to see somebody new in this hobby.
What are your goals for collecting? You say you have 2 kids so are you just trying to buy good games so that they appreciate the older titles that you did when you were a kid? A lot of us here are completionists and try to collect every game but I can't imagine starting a goal like that with 2 kids and a wife. |

My first goal is all 670 (I think it was) licensed Nintendo NES games. I'll still collect unofficial during the process, but that's my first priority. I want my kids to play all the games they can including ones that were my favorite. Most NES games don'tt ake long to go through and follow a basic methodology, so the 3 and 5 year olds will adapt fairly well. The 5 year old can beat Super Smash Bros on N64 every time. |

You can save yourself some big bucks if you avoid Stadium Events...for $800+ you are basically getting World Class Track Meet with a different label. There's a few others you can avoid (if you get the Tengen version of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, it's identical to the licenced Mindscape one, plus the three licenced Tengen games came in unlicenced black carts as well). There's probably a few others, but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
WARNING: SHAMELESS PLUG I have a list of stuff for sale on RFGeneration/NESForums, and haven't posted it here yet. http://www.rfgeneration.com/forum/index.php?topic=4683.0 If you see something you would like, pop me a PM here. I'll be posting it here in a few days, once I get home to add some new goodies. Prices aren't set in stone either, so feel free to make an offer :) /END SHAMELESS PLUG There's one thing I've found with the NES as well...no game is really that bad if you give it a chance. I've had more fun playing "bad" games in recent months than I've had playing the so-called "classics." Don't let someone's bad review deter you from playing a potential gem :) And above all, happy gaming :) |

Keep an eye out for "Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers" and "ExciteBike"
My oldest son who is 4 loves those 2 games. He loves "Chip & Dale" because he can hide inside the boxes (plus its 2 player, so you can play alongside and pick him up if he cant get past some obstacles) And Excite bike is just really simple to play Al |

Awesome, thanks for the heads up. I woend both those as a child and when yous aid Chip & Dale, I remembered exactly the game you were mentioning. That's what i find most exciting about starting a NES collection -- its not just about collecting carts, but memories. PS: If anyone has doubles/commons/etc in lots and wants to sell, let me know (preferably via PayPal). I keep my eyes peeled all the time now, but if anyone has a bunch of commons they would rather sell to someone, let me know. Trust me, I'd rather buy from collectors then non-collectors. |
