The "whats your favorite rpg?" thread got me whating to make this thread.Im curious what everyones favorite genre of video game is.Personally i like rpg's,shmup's and fishing games the most.While i like pretty most all shmup's i dont like run and gun games as much as space shooters(even though i love contra) and i prefer horizontal to vertical...i think.But if i had to name just one favorite game genre it would be...rpg.


     So i guess feel free to tell us about genres you like and not just your favorite if you want to.If there was a thread similar to this one already i apologize, i didnt see it.

I like side-scrolling platformers the best myself.  I really like all the genres expect RPG's to be honest though.

I like all genres but mostly adventure, rpg and shoot 'em ups. Some sports game are cool and some beat 'em ups also, i usually play  games like Micro Machines and Pro Am and Mighty Final Fight in those genres.

What kind of games are the Lolo games?  Those are timeless.  I think my favorites are mostly platformers.  It's a formula that works.

Beatemups, foremost.  Who couldn't love a game where you just walk down the street punching every person/thing you see?  They're a genre sorely missing today.

In second comes platformers (Super Mario Bros. for the win) and platformer/shooters like Megaman, tied.

My favorite series of any games outright is Metroid, though.  It's really in a league of its own.

NES aside, I'm also a big fan of point+click adventure games on the PC ala King's Quest/Quest for Glory.  Also the oldschool platformer/shooters like Commander Keen and Duke Nukem.  Those games are awesome on so many levels.  No developers really allow their programmers to put any personality into their games these days..  Well, with the exception of perhaps the Serious Sam series.

Lolo is a Strategic Character-based Puzzle Game.  When I think of it, I think to a lesser extent of Bomberman and Dig Dug.  Both of those lean a little closer to action-oriented gameplay, but they both have similar if not simpler gameplay styles.

We have very similar tastes in games Psytronic.  Plus Metriod is hands downs my favorite series overall.

Metroid is definitely one of my favourite game series right next to Zelda. Super Metroid is my favourite game ever, with A Link to the Past coming in after that.

I prefer the adventure games that are very open ended. You could never get away with a game like the first Legend of Zelda, Metroid, or Blaster Master today. They never tell you where to go, which I thought was a good thing. it forced you to learn the areas, and just keep trying things. and best of all, the it forced you to keep track of things and make good maps. I thought that was incredibly fun.

I'm a fan of every game genre, however, my least favourite would have to be sports titles. Its way more fun to toss the football outside than on the Nintendo. But hey, thats just me.

I love adventure, rpg's, action, platformers, strategy, simulation, puzzle, fighting, racing, side-scrolling shooters...yeah lots of stuff..lol

Oh yes.I forgot strategy/tactics games.There right up there with rpg's for me.I love romance of the three kingdoms and nobunagas ambition.

AMEN BROTHER. I grew up playing Sierra On-Line's adventure series. Although Space Quest will always be my favorite. Never played Kings Quest V for NES. Is it any good?

No, it is awkward on the NES.  It is was better on PC, I still have it for PC somewhere.

I have em all! Space Quest, Kings Quest, Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Goblins Quest, etc. etc. All still in their original packaging and all! I even have a sealed copy of Space Quest 1 EGA. I'm very proud of my collection; I've had them since I was 10 or so.. :)

Platformers and Shoot 'em ups does it for me...

When I was a kid I liked platformers the most but since the pokemon rage  :-[ came along the RPG's are my new addiction.  A puzzle game like kickle cubicle is also always fun to play  8-)
