Title: Have I lost my mind? Post by mikeroach113 on 07. Mar 2007 at 03:18
Alright, I already have a top-loader NES, and I love it. It works like a charm. I hardly have any trouble with it. However, I really miss having the old 1985 model around this household. It hasn't been here for 11 years. Now I'm like losing sleep over this just because I want a different model of a system I already own. I really only need the system itself and the 1985 model controller though really. I could just use the power supply and RF unit for the top loader, right? Anyway, I found a guy that's selling a complete set of a top loader, controller, AC and RF for $55 plus $15 shipping, and that adds up to $70. Like I said, I don't know what to do. Would it hurt if I asked for your input?

a well done refurbed Toaster will work just as good as a toploader. Its personal prefrence i prefer the toaster for nostagic reasons.

It's a funny thing; I, too, bought a toploader just for better gameplay, but then I, too, wanted to go back to the old toaster - mainly for the quality. What I did was took out my crappy looking one I bought from a friend a while back. I replaced the 72 pin connector, disabled the lockout chip, cleaned the interior, & cleaned the exterior.
Now it's just like the toploader. |

I have both a toaster and a top loader I use to play games. I mainly use the top loader but I break out the toaster sometimes (it is the one I had when I was a kid even). I also have a custom painted toaster I done myself, and a IC Chip Tester toaster. Can't have to many NES's setting around. I actually need to pick up another toaster to make a copyNES if someone has one for dirt cheap.

Don't you just need to change the 72 pin connector in order for it to work like the top loader?

Yeah, but it's best to cut the lockout chip too while you're in there, to get the best results. A new pin connector is great, but cutting the lockout chip will eliminate ALL blinking in the future, plus allow you to play PAL games without a problem. |

if you're asking whether $70 for a toaster is a good deal, I would say definately not, but that's just me. I'll have three to sell this friday if you want one. and no, you're not crazy for wanting a toaster in addition to the toploader. I would guess a majority of the people on this board have both (myself included).

I always loved my toaster, i still have my first one i got when i was a kid and it works fine. I might buy a toploader in the near future but have no rush getting one since the quality is indeed lacking. The toploader looks pretty cool but i'd rather go for quality.

The toploader is also easier to take around. Have you ever shoved that fat box into your backpack?

PM me with pictures of all three so I can see the kind of condition they're in, but make sure the pictures are good quality! And I don't have any money right now, so if I decide I want one, I won't be able to pay you until the beginning of April, but I AM interested in one, so show me pictures of all three of them when they come. BTW:Did these have the PIN connector changed and stuff? And optionally had the lockout chip removed? |

How do you go about disableing the lockout chip and what does it look like? sorry if these questions sound dumb but I had no idea this would eliminate all blinking problems.
