Title: First NES gaming memory?
Post by FamicomJL on 16. Mar 2007 at 21:30
I saw a thread similar to this at a game show board, so I thought it would be a good idea to do something like it here. :) My question is, what is your first memory that involves NES gaming?

My first memory is when we got our system in 1985...we took a visit to NYC and my Mom got me the system...That's how my addiction began. :)

the year they were released i was like 9 or 10 ...they had a demo model set up with super mario bros at the local k-mart.I loved going to kmart cause i knew id get to play mario bro...i think they had excitebike aswell...anyhow...i was playing one time and i made it to the end of the first level and promtly fell off the stairs and ran to the flag.this kid about 2 years older maybe had been watching me and decided to tell me that i sucked at smb because i didnt run/jump from the top of the stairs and touch the top of the flag.lol...i didnt even know you could do that back then ...id only demoed it a couple times or so.

Well that chrismas i got the deluxe set.rob sucked but me and my sister would take turns doing robs controls and purposely smashing each other...in gyromite that is.

I was born in 85 so I don't remember when we got the system but my first real memory was when My dad took my sister and I out to the store the day SMB 3 came out. I remember having NES before 91 but it was in my sister's room and being the youngest my 3 sisters would hog it all the time. So when my sisters started greaduating high school in the early 90s the NES became mine. At the time I didn't know that was the release date but my dad went into the store and came back out and gave my sister and I the bag. We opened it and saw SMB3 and needless to say I didn't sleep for days.

I'll never forget one day my grandma told me they had a NES for kids to play while there parents were in this exercise class she went to.  From then on, I asked to spend the night at her house every Friday night as that was when she went.  I really didn't like sleeping there but the NES was worth it.

I have no idea what year it was but I know it was 1985 or 1986.  The only games they had were baseball, Mach Rider, Excitebike and Gyromite.  They had to ROB too but I remember thinking, I only have an hour so don't waste it trying to figure that robot out.

I ended up buying my first NES in 1989 or 1990.  My first game purchased was Tecmo Baseball:)

Good thread!!

My parents had a NES before I was born, so I always remember it.  Me and my Dad used to play SMB2 together.  I liked playing NES with my Dad.  I remember, to help potty-train me, he would play SMB2 with me as a reward for going in the big boy toilet.  True story.

I don't quite remember the game, but I do know the place - it was in this very room, in fact.  Our dad had bought an NES & we played some driving game, something like Road Blasters.

The first game I remember having was Rygar, but couldn't ever get passed that first monster after the river - didn't know about powering up back then.

The next game we had, & still have, was Metroid.  Of course we couldn't get anywhere in that game either.  It creeped me & my brother out.  Still liked it, though.

Third came Super Mario Bros. :)

My first memory... *diddly doo diddly doo* (that's the flash back music playing).  Let me set the stage.  We will use the pink fuzzy edges they used to use in Saved by the Bell during a dream.  The year, 1986(I think).  The system, Nintendo Entertainment System Deluxe Set.  I woke up Christmas morning to find a TV, a NES, and... wait for it R.O.B. all set up and ready to play.  One of the best Christmas memories ever.  My mom, dad, and myself spent the next few hours trying to figure out SMB.  Man that was cool.
Just as a side note, I finished SMB in under 9 min. today.  Just a little personal achievement.

Thinking back on it a little more I remember an earlier memory. i remember we had R.O.B. and I actually thought he was cool. He worked everytime and with my name being Rob too I thought it was cool that this robot that played video games and had the same name as me. Now I realized when I play any video game and get into it I probably look like a robot trying to beat the game. lol

My first memory was at the mall, Sears I believe.  They had a NES contest there, using the game Duck Hunt who ever got to a certain score won a free NES Action set.  I can't remember the score anymore but back then it was more than I could ever get to :(  Later that day my Father surprised us and bought our very first Video game system, yup you guessed it.......  Atari 2600.  Well it was still cool for me back then.  about two years later we finally got the NES action set for Christmas.  I played that that system for hours and hours.  I still remember many great memorys playing the games from for it back than. :D

It was around '88 or '89 i think.

Me and my parents went to a relatives house and there were bunch of kids sitting around this grey box staring at the TV like they were glued to it.

I knew that the box was an NES. I had seen a few ads before that, and was already aching to get the thing. Didn't really help my parents when i got to play it fot the first time:)

I can't remember the game that i first played, but i definitely tried these: Excite Bike, SMB, and Mario Bros.

Ahh...the memories. :)
