Title: Ghostbusters II
Post by mikeroach113 on 07. Apr 2007 at 05:49
Although it's not as good as HAL Laboratory's japanese and PAL only release "NEW Ghostbusters II", the "Ghostbusters II" for NES that came out over here, isn't bad. However it's NOT by any means a masterpiece either. But I find it rather enjoyable. It's certainly more enjoyable than the original by Tokuma Shoten/BITS Laboratory! The replay value is certainly higher, and it's got fun factor, but like I said, it's not by any means a masterpiece. AVGN and Armake21 say that the game is a piece of shit, but really, it's not that bad at all. It's just not a masterpiece. There's 4 platforming stages, 2 driving stages, and 2 stages where you control The Statue Of Liberty. I can't get past level 3 though. The music's kinda cool too. I've hummed this game's version of the GB theme quite a bit yesterday. The digitized drumbeats kinda remind me of a Konami game, and the music during the driving stages possibly sounds like something you could hear in a Konami game. Speaking of which, lately I've been wondering what it would be like if Konami had made a GB game, so I whipped this together, which you should see at neszone soon. But that's another story. Anyway, in terms of bad stuff, you have to manually aim the gun in the platforming stages, and that's not very cool. And you press A to shoot and B to jump. Well that one I can live with, because it's no big deal. At the first driving stage, Armake21 and AVGN said that it's impossible to get past one of the barracades without crashing, but it's really not. Pay attention. There is a way to get past that barracade. But what's really pathetic is when this stage is shown in the demonstration sequence, the car crashes into that barracade. What the hell? Anyway, that's pretty much it. This game ain't a masterpiece, but it's got high fun factor and replay value. However I much more recommend "NEW Ghostbusters II", by HAL Laboratory, which only came out in Japan and Europe. The Game Boy version of the game came out in the US though, but it was just called "Ghostbusters II", without the "New" prefix.

I actually like this game too.  The aiming of the gun is pretty useless anyhow because most of the time, it is effective to shoot diagonally.  It also seems that those reviewers didn't know you could lay out traps using the start button...
Of course, this game is indeed, no masterpiece...

I like this game too.

Played it quite a bit as a kid and was probably the game i rented the most.

Still play it every once in a while and still like it. Bought it to my collection about a year ago.

As said before, not a masterpiece, but is good enough to keep me entertained. :)
