Title: has your paypal account ever been hacked?
Post by dgordon86 on 15. Apr 2007 at 07:07
Yesterday I got home from a grueling night of work (around 11pm) and follow my usual routine..anyways, I look in my paypal account and I see "imagineEasy Solutions....payment:$7.99"...?

Ask my girlfriend if she paid for anything, but low and behold she has not. ugh. Now I'm paranoid as heck, esp. since my auctions will be commencing tomorrow evening.

feck. Right away I changed the password, personal questions ect.
I'm even opening another paypal account to redirect all my payments to.

I've been trying to think of how this could have happened. Maybe an easy pass?, network intrusion? (doubt, on a ma; behind a firewall in the household of an IT admin. <landlord>) Could have been a mistake at school? Who knows.

My credit card info has been stolen twice and I have had fake charges.  I am pretty sure it someone came from paypal, but can't be 100% certain.  Do a google search on that company and see if others have had this happen as well.  Last week I had a 9.95 charge on my CC Bill and didn't know what it was for.  After a few searches I found it was a company that charges people for "web templates" but you don't actually get anything it just shows up on your account.  If you call them it is a recording, if you email them it is an automated respoce 2 weeks later.  I had to change my CC # and have a new card on the way.  If you find proof it is a scamming company then paypal should reimburse you the $$$.  Plus doing a company search might jog your memory if you did buy something but didn't expect it to be under that name on your bill.  I have also had that happen.  Good luck, it is a pain in the ass when this kind of stuff happens.

On a daily basis. :P There's nothing worse than coming home to find some hobbyist ripping you off by selling you paper & cardboard that probably has a value no higher than 5 bucks that you paid 30 dollars for. :o Oh wait. :-X No offense, Michiganfan. ;D

Seriously, somehow I had ATM transactions in Mexico & Romania at the same time. :-? Some loser must've sold my CC info. >:( It's a good thing I'm unverified now. :-/

A friend of mine just found out her CC info was stolen. Someone tried to use it to take out $500 out of her account in Louisana and Texas. Luckily she didn't have that kind of cash in there for them to take. As far as I know, they still haven't found out who it was :-/ Hopefully, you will have better luck with this.

I've never had my paypal account hacked. I make sure it's the actual 'paypal' site before I type my password in.

As often as I lose my wallet, no one has ever put charges on my credit cards during the 4 days I take to find it before I report it a lost, and cancel my cards.

It's was a reminder that my paypal password was waaay too simple.

Now my password is super complex and i've opened up a dedicated bank account just for paypal. Feck off rest of the world. heh.

I came to the conclusion that this is probably the best way to minimize people messing with my main accounts. Don't be brave, be smart-- as they say.

does it really matter that your first password was short, no one is gonna sit there and try to geuss it. They hac into it somehow so having a long or short one shouldnt matter. :-/

It's better if you make it harder to type, that way you'll often screw up & have to Backspace more often, making it harder for hackers to read the keystrokes. ;D
