Title: FamicomBOX
Post by NationalGameDepot on 18. Apr 2007 at 04:45
Is 375 shipped a bad price for a Famicom Box with 10 games, both controllers, zapper, and the key to open it?  I think I can pick one up for around this price, but I am not sure if it is to much to pay or not.  I really want one, but haven't had much luck finding them cause of the language barrier.

Also, remember that the FamicomBox should come with at least two different keys, one to open it and one to turn it on. Most of them come with two keys to open it and one to turn it on.

Is that to much to pay though? Or is it a fair price?

Seems fair considering shipping is included.... it's a heavy "mofo"

That is surface shipping too, so not very fast or safe really.  I sent him my offer, lets see what he says.  Thanks for the input, this is one area I don't have much knowledge on.

Seems fair, the last one I saw on ebay sold for around 225$ with around 80$ for Sea shipping and had around 6 games for it

Damn, the deal fell through.  I was about 10 mins from closing the deal and someone used the BIN first and way over-paid IMO.  Oh well.  I anyone runs into to one please let me know.

What was the sale price?

$399.99 + shipping.  The cheapest shipping, surface, was $110.  I am not paying 510 bucks for one of these, damn.

Yep thats the one Martin.  I was excited cause you don't find many of them listed were the sellers speak English well.  Plus Eric (japangames) has been around forever and seems like a good guy to boot.  Oh well..... :'(

I don't think I really got screwed over, I just should have acted faster I guess. I really didn't think someone would trip the BIN to be honest.  Maybe he will find another one soon :P

BTW--Good to see you posting on a regular basis Martin, we don't see you around here much anymore.

Can the Carts be played on a NES

Title: Re: FamicomBOX
Post by JC on 23. May 2007 at 05:16
I've never tried it out, but I hear from a dude who sells these carts that they don't work on the NES. The carts seem to have some special coding that links it up with the FamicomBox. Most, if not all, NES games do not work on the FamicomBox.

Indeed the carts can only be played on the famibox, i still want one of these. Would be cool to have both famibox and m82.

That sucks, I didn't realize that the carts don't work on the NES.  I won the Mahjong cart from Japan-Games recently thinking it would work on my NES, I guess I should've done some research first ;)

They work fine on a Top Loader, just like they should.  The only thing that is different about them is that  they have something extra in them that makes them work on a famicombox/station.  The Famibox will only play these games and not any other games, has to be the famicombox games.  At least that is my understanding of it, would love to test it out whenever I can actually get a famibox.

JC and me were talking about it a few days ago on famicomworld about it.  He thinks that the FB has a menu screen and you have to access games through the menu screen. So, only games with the menu info in them will show on the menu screen. But there may be more complex lockout involved, which I've heard about, but I'm not technical enough to recall or discuss it.

I read that the lockout pins match up differently on the cartridges.

NGD has that mostly right...only...there is definitely a menu screen; the game must communicate with the FB in order for the game to appear on the menu. When you power on the FB, there's also a screen that tests the carts to ensure they're functioning (communicating).
