Based on some posts in another thread, what are your ideas for new homebrew games.
How about: "Nesworld Contest" a street fighter-ish game starring characatures of our favorite nesworld posters. (maybe the title needs work) I also think "Snakes on a Train" would be funny. You need to go from one rail car to the next getting the snakes off the train. Needs a catch phrase though. "There are mother*&*& snakes on this mother&*&* train" Al |

I had actually planned a small game once, complete ripoff of an old LCD game called Trojan Horse, to be coded by Snowbro... unfortunately we never really got anywhere....
The mockups above are the only pictures that exists from my days of making artwork for the game :-) http://www.nesworld.com/trojan/trojan2.jpg |

The Street Figher game using actual forum members would be freaking cool for sure. Everyone could finall beat the crap out of me like that have always wanted ;D Really cool idea.
I mentioned Tic Tac Toe and Paper/rock/Sci, would still like either of those. Put my game list on a NES cart with checkable boxes and battery back up ;D Maybe a new platformer. Turn the M on Mario's hat to the side and make it an E. Have a game staring Ernie, Mario long lost cousin or something. I could think of randomness allday long. ~~NGD |

I'll just repost my idea from the other thread. I'd really like a Hide and Seek type game similar to the Atari 2600 game "Sneak-n-Peek." The game gets constant crappy reviews, but I love it. :)
I talked to a programmer friend of mine about possibly tackling it, but he said Assembly languages scare him. So that's a no-go. d'oh. |

Dark Castle (the mac/C64 game) should be ported to the nes. what a great game!

Title: Re: Post your game ideas Post by bunnyboy on 14. May 2007 at 07:58
From what I remember of Dark Castle it would not be a good control scheme for NES. It has been a few years since I played tho... Other ancient mac games I am planning are Air Traffic Controller and Pararena. I also wrote Glider for the Newton a few years ago so I might do that too. The list of projects just keeps getting bigger :)

There has been no news for at least two years, all his websites are gone, probably safe to assume its cancelled. Most likely he ran out of interest or hit some major problems with his design.

I highly doubt you can hold your breath that long :-) Last I heard was that he is busy with other stuff, so I doubt you'll see a release in 2007... |

I think Bregalad on nesdev is working on an RPG called Dragon Skills. I don't know anything else about it though. Al |

Yeah i heard about it, what would be cool also is a new zapper based game. Is it much harder to program or easier?
|
|
Title: Re: Post your game ideas Post by albailey on 16. May 2007 at 19:56
Having never done a zapper game, for me it would be harder, but I doubt they are overly complicated.

That looks so neat. I wish I knew how to program in the assembly language.

I know it's wishful thinking, but I made a Flash version of an old Mac game developed by Oliver Dreer called "Diamonds" in 1991. My clone of it was done in 2004.
If this could be an NES cart, that'd be so slick. I posted a link to show it to people in a thread on the "General" board, but I guess I can post it here too. http://theosek.sitesled.com/Diamonds.html |

Title: Re: Post your game ideas Post by bunnyboy on 19. May 2007 at 06:14
I love that game! Been many years since I played it... Would be a relatively simple NES game to make for anyone just starting. No scrolling, one sprite, easy mechanics.

Reminds me of Dudes with attitude/Trolls on Treasure Island ... nice game :-)

I knew there was something familiar looking about your name, and I just figured it out.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metroid#JUSTIN_BAILEY Ahh, NES nerd catharsis. Whatever game you decide to make, you should add "AL BAILEY" as an easter egg/cheat code. Awesome. |

That diamonds game... I remember seeing that from the days of Number Munchers from 5th grade!

Great game song is now stuck in my head and BTW I was number munchers champion ;)

Title: Re: Post your game ideas Post by Sivak on 24. May 2007 at 18:52
It's strange folks are discussing the game here as opposed to my post in the "General" board showing it... Maybe I should delete that post.

You don't need a rom; it was ported to PC:

I've been trying for some time now to learn assembly. The code seems simple enough, but I'm having trouble with assemblers, tile editors, etc. All the ones I find either don't work or have no instructions and work strangely. My game will be a ninja RPG with real-time battles. Another cool idea would be a side-scroller based on Ghost in the Shell or Ninja Scroll.

Title: Re: Post your game ideas Post by albailey on 25. May 2007 at 17:32
Lucien,
For an assembler I would suggest CA65. It's just my opinion, but it worked really well for me. If you have Unix experience (like with make files, etc..) it's not bad to get going. I installed cygwin on my PC to give me a Unix like environment. If you need help getting it setup, let me know. As for a tile editor, I wrote one in Java so if you have access to a JVM you can try it out. Good luck figuring it out though. I just add features as I need them. Al |

One other game idea I had: The board game Checkers. It's simple, many know how to play it, and to my recollection there was never a Checkers game on the NES.
I don't know how well one could code computer AI, but 2 player should be simple. Maybe have the "force jump" rule be optional. |

does anybody remember lemonade stand. that would be cool on the nes.

Man we are coming up with some great ideas here. Hope you are writing these down Al :D Checkers would ROCK on NES!
~~NGD |

Title: Re: Post your game ideas Post by Sivak on 03. Jun 2007 at 16:36
Well, if Checkers is done it needs to be in a red cartridge. Because I said so! :o

Title: Re: Post your game ideas Post by dangevin on 03. Jun 2007 at 18:17
Leisure Suit Larry would need to be modified to work like King's Quest V. With point-and-click and hotspots. It would be fun though I miss those games. My old copies are on 5 1/4" diskettes...good luck finding a drive to load them from. Come to think of it those old games used to run on my 386, I'd need to get some sort of emulator just to run 'em on my computer. Good idea :)

I had to get DOSbox to run my old PC games, it works great to make old PC run on new machines. I have Kings Quest V on cdrom someplace, haven't played that in ages.

I use DOS Box too. I used it to run the old SSI games like Pools of Darkness and such.

Title: Re: Post your game ideas Post by albailey on 03. Jun 2007 at 22:44
Checkers probably wouldnt be too bad. Are you guys sure there is no famicom version of it?
What about Chinese Checkers? I dont want to do a game if one already can be played on the NES (which I guess would include Famicom games) Al |

Title: Re: Post your game ideas Post by Lucien Bloodmire on 14. Jun 2007 at 06:35
How about a port of Adventure? That game was so good, they named a genre after it.

How about a new Metal Gear game with Golgo 13 as the engine. One could change the story via text and change the graphics. IMO that would one of next best hacks that could be done.
