Going thru some boxed NES games I saw a promo by Tecmo. Collect the 5 "badges" from Rygar,Mighty Bomb Jack,Solomon's Key ,Star Force and Tecmo Baseball and mail them in for the SPECIAL BONUS OFFER.

No listed expiration date. Wonder if they have any left. lol

Might as well make a copy and send it in.  Would be funny as shit if you actually got one.  Otherwise you would prob. give someone at the company a good laugh.  Include your phone # and you might get a call back to find out what the item actually was.  ;D

I want to say they had the items listed in another instruction booklet? Maybe a tshirt? hmm...I've always wanted a definitive answer on this one.

It says it is an item you can share with your friends and family? T-shirt? I dunno about that.

If I were them and I wanted to do something like this I would

1. be ambiguous so that people have an internal dialogue that sounds an awful lot like what we're all expressing here

2. Put the cart before the horse and get the idea on paper as soon as possible to see interest in the promotion, then work on what to give away later on...after the numbers have come in on how many to send out. Probably an item chosen from whatever's on sale in the "we'll print your logo on anything" catalog that month. I'm sure the people that did submit this eventually got a Tecmo pen, keyfob, calculator or something else equivalently unsplendiferous :)
