I bought one of these at Wal-Mart and taught myself how to do it at work a few days ago. I'm addicted to this thing! Even more than NES at the moment! My fastest time now is 3 minutes 17 seconds. Best ten bucks I ever spent. Woooohooo!

EDIT: My new fastest time is 2 minutes 37 seconds!

I hate these things, makes my head hurt. I can fix "beat" them too. Take a screw driver and pry them apart, then they pop right back together in the correct order in no time :P (I am not kidding, I really have done this) Pretty impressive though Nick, they aren't easy to solve.

Do you put them back the right way, NGD? :P The colors have to be a certain way.

They go back together pretty easily once you get them apart. I found it out after breaking one out ot anger once :P

I used to have to disassemble mine too.
I've never been able to do one.

Do you have a book or reference on what the proper tactics or techinque is?

A little book came with it with hints and tricks on how to move around the pieces without messing everything up, which is what I used to figure everything out. I use a very basic beginner's method to solve it. There are many quicker methods also, but I don't know them.

Every cube can be solved in a maximum of 20 moves with the aid of a computer. And the world record now is 8.80 seconds!

Congrats Nick! I have always wanted to pick one of these up and toy with it...never have had the opportunity though. One of these days I'll buy one perhaps...

I just peel the colored stickers off and put them back in the right order! I hate those stupid things!

It used to take me about 4-5 minutes to successfully solve a Rubik's cube (though it was 16 or 17 years ago...I was but 5 at the time). Nowadays, it'd take me half an hour to get anywhere close.

You know, something like that is a pre-programmed bio-response. It's like people with math. Some people are extremely talented for that field, some are not.

For those that can solve a Cube in a few minutes, they fall into that special catagory.
