Title: AD&D Curse of the Azure Bonds?
Post by Stan Stepanic on 13. Jul 2007 at 23:03
Just finished Pool of Radiance today, which by the way is an INCREDIBLE game, and I noticed something.  After you beat it and return to New Phlan, you're given the option of saving your character record sheets.  What happens when you select this option is that you get a huge password for each character.  What does that mean?  Well, in the original release you could import your old characters to Azure Bonds (the sequel) to keep playing and raise more levels.  This means that SSI intended on releasing it for the NES, otherwise they wouldn't have bothered with this bit.  Anyone have any information on it or know anything about prototypes and such?

I have heard rumor of another AD&D game that was in dev stages but never was completed.  I can't think of the name of it right now, I will try to find it out later and post it if I do.  However, I don't think it was called Azure Bonds.  You might want to try contacting DreamTR cause he would prob. know better than anyone.

Possibly, unless they were going to change the name of it, it makes most sense, otherwise Dragons of Flame is really the only other option considering what SSI had released at the time.

On the C64 they released Azure Bonds and later "Secret of the Silver Blades". I owned both as well as Pool of Radiance and you could play your character all the wy through.  I thought they released a 4th game but I didnt own it.

The NES and C64 versions of Pool of Radiance are very similar and the C64 is a 6502 based chip so it would have been "similar" to the NES version,  I have no clue though if they ever came close to porting it to NES though.

Pretty sure Dragons of Flame was the one I was thinking of and being in dev stages.  I knew it had the word flame in it but couldn't remember the whole thing.  They may be a proto floating around, but that would be about it.

For those who don't know, that game is just a sequel to Heroes of the Lance.  Though it's supposed to be better, it's not really worth it.  I wonder if Curse is out there?  The first game was released early enough that it could have been started.

They did do a fourth game, called "Pool of Darkness."  I have the PC version somewhere.  Love those old SSI "gold box" titles :P
