it was never my intension to own them.  So I never went for them.  In fact, I owned the box/manual for one of them, and sold it to a local member here.

Very cool Leon.  I am in Swindle magazine this month as well.  It is a pretty small article but being publish is being published.  I got my copy in the mail today in fact.

When you met in 1999 almost 10 years had passed since the NES was released?  Was it released a lot later in Canada?

Is it just me, or does that caption seem a little... unwholesome?

I can just imagine you dragging her by her legs as she screams and claws at door frames, trying not to get pulled down the stairs to the basement.

Is that the two of you in the picture, or did they hire models to pose with your NES boxes?  And which game is the one one you can barely see the edge of on the left side of the picture?

Game on the left side of the picture is a PAL game (Smurfs).

NES was released later in Canada, but not a much later.  I got mine the first winter it came out in Canada and by that time Tengen was selling RBI baseball in unlicensed format (if that helps to figure out the timeline).

Rest:

- the picture is me and my wife.  
- the collection is currently at my parents house.  It will be moving into my house at the end of this year (my wife and I just purchased our first home).
- the picture is of me and my wife, on top of my parents kitchen counter.  The newspaper photographer came with 2 D1-Mark III Canon lenses and lots of L glass (for you photo bugs). This is the photo that they decided to use due to space constraint on the page.
- "keep pulling into the basement" is an "inside joke".  My arcade machine, computers, TV, work bench, etc is all in the basement.   :)

As far as date is concerned.  I know she was a bit off, but you gotta remember, it's from her perspective.  No editorial editing or factual editing was done by me or the post.

Like everyone else said, that sounds very close to my life the last 7 or 8 years.

So, which cool games did the Canadians lose out on?  (I know I could search through Stan's list, but a few prominent examples would suffice.)

That is my life, and I read it to my wife and she was shocked.  Good to know I'm not the only one.  I still have a few games to go, maybe 5 or 10, but then I don't know what I'll do!   :-/
