I would like to start a "what do you think about th infamous Zelda III proto" forum. Now i know you either love it or hate it but this has been the topic of much debate and i would like to know what your thoughts are on it all ;D

Indeed this topic has been spoken alot about. It's fake, it always has been fake and it never will be real.

I think we all know it as a fake, but dont you just wish even the smallest bit that it was real, just imagining the holy grail of gaming history ;)

Is this a reference to the hack on www.nesplayer.com ?
If so, I think a lot of work went into it.

I am so sick and tired of hearing about this stupid proto.  The idiot who wasted everyone times and screwed that one guy out of money for it should be freaking ashamed at him self and doesn't deserve all the attention this gets.  No sure why people are so fascinated by hoaxs, they just piss me off.

No I totally agree it is shit how he got ripped off but the shear amount of work and effort that went into all of this really does amaze me, that some people in the NES community really wish things like this were true. If we are all honest we did hope that this was true and that our doubts were wrong, the point of the topic wasnt do you believe him or lets slag him off, it was what do you think about how something like this even now manages to raise so many opinions and bring such a small community tighter and closer together

See, the problem is, things like this don't generally serve to bring the collecting community closer together, at least not in the larger sense.  Fakes only serve to create an atmosphere of distrust among collectors.  

You have to understand, many of the "hardcore" collectors on this board have been ripped off -- big time -- at some point by a supposedly legitimate collector.  Then you come on asking how such a fake (and the person who was screwed by it) serve to help the gaming community.  I can understand why people are upset.

Do I wish there was a Zelda III proto?  Yes.  But I know it doesn't exist.

Fakes like this punch holes in the trust of the community.  As far as I know, there's only one opinion regarding Zelda III - it's a complete and total fabrication.
