Apologies if this has been addressed in the past but I was just wondering if anybody knows if toaster nes's had any differences.  Obviously they were different region to region but was there any other major changes.  Also, is there anyway to find out the production date of your nes? Like, is there anything that differentiates nes's released in '85 with one's released in '92?

You could get a rough idea from the serial # to tell if it is a early or later realeased NES.  The do have differences though depending on how new they are.  The newer ones had better lockout protection to prevent unlicensed companies from being able to easily make games work.

Then of course some of the different region ones look a little different as well.

When timed right those would crash the NES lockout, preventing it from resetting the system. Nintendo slowly added protection against those on the NES board. Next time you open your NES, check the board for the revision number. Right in the middle it will say NES-CPU- then a number. That number is the revision. If you have 05 it is an early one. 07 and 09 added some lockout protection. 11 was the last version with the most lockout protection. Almost all unlicensed carts that use lockout defeaters will not work on a NES-CPU-11 system.  There are 4 different revision versions of the NES board. Open your NES, and check the board for the revision number. Right in the middle it will say NES-CPU- then a number. That number is the revision. In other words, there are 4 different BOARD versions of the toaster: -05, -07, -09, and -11. I guess you could get a rough idea of what year your NES was manufactured by looking at those numbers.

Thank you friend, I know i brought this up before and no one had a good answer.  Does anyone know how bunnyboy came up with this info?  Is this just based on him cracking open a ton of Nes's and documenting the versions he observed.  

If anyone here knows exactly when they got their nes please post what your serial # is.  Maybe we can figure out some sort of rhyme and reason to it like a Vin or something.  That'd be cool if the first four digits was the location of manufacturing, and then the next four was region, etc.

Unfortunately I've amassed so many toasters I didn't keep track of which one I originally got back in '88 with no game and a sweet player's guide.  ;)

I'm not sure where bunnyboy came up with that information but the man certainly does his research. He has plenty of Nintendo technical documents, where he might have got the information from. More likely, I think he just figured it out himself through opening them up.
