I'm trying to consolidate my collection down to the games I'll only get a good amount of gameplay out of. There are plenty of Top Ten Lists out there and and they have most of the same games. Then there are franchises that are good but not top ten. I was wondering, what is the best Dragon Warrior game? I kinda don't want to own own all of them, what is most commonly thought to be the best?

I found 2 and 4 most amusing. I kinda like them all since i am a big RPG fan.

I liked 4 the best but most people seem to prefer 3.

DW3 is my favorite, but DW4 is quite awesome as well.  If you want to bring newer systems into this (which is a travesty, I know), DQ8 for the PS2 is quite excellent, and I'm eagerly anticipating the multiplayer DQ9 for the DS.

3 and 4 seem likely to be cited as the "best" on the NES.  I absolutely adored DQ8 on PS2 though and cannot recommend it enough.  It really captured what made old RPGs so charming and greatly expanded the formula.  Plus you can ride a giant cat!

4 is the best, easily. The chapter system holds up all these years later. If you own all of them, keep all four, I say.

I agree with Dragon Warrior IV being the best, followed by Dragon Warrior II in my opinion.  You really can't go wrong with any of them though!

I have only played the first one and I am absolutely sure of that it is not the best one. Everything in that game repeats itself all the time and that is tiring in length

I think 4 is the best hands down

I've only played 1,2 and 3 and I liked 3 the best.   I guess I should try out 4.  I was surprised to see someone indicate they liked #2 more than #3.
