Title: Is it really worth it? Post by Skipper_Lucky11 on 08. Feb 2008 at 07:56
I have been pondering collecting Famicom games and those yellow disc things for a long time now. From you guys who collect the Famicom stuff is it worth it? Is there a lot of games you cant understand because of the language difference? Is it really expensive I know I have seen a copy of Mother on eBay for the Famicom at least twice complete for 20 bucks so I cant see it being to expensive. I am not a “completist” as I like to say, and would only want the fun games. I know I would want Mother, Doki Doki Panic. So can you guys hook me up with some good games so I can find some videos and such. And maybe some info.

Most of the games you can understand unless your playing RPG's, you really need a tranlator then. Doki doki panic would be playable for you but Mother has alot text in it so you should use a translator. The prices vary alot so keep checking and have patience, you can get them for acceptable prices.

well, I've never tried to collect famicom at all. Mostly because I have to draw the line somewhere. I set out to collect complete CIB NES set and have since added pal exclusives and title differences. Expanding my collecting perameters too fast too soon would have gotten overwhelming for me.
That being said, it would be really cool to collect famicom stuff as there are a lot of games that were only released that way. Maybe someday I'll expand out and start collecting famicom games. I guess it all depends on where your collecting interests lye. Figure out what intrigues you the most and start there :). Bryan |

I really hope that you decide to go for it sometime soon. Famicom collecting is very fun. The only problem is that more and more collector's are coming to the Famicom collecting market, so it's soon going to be MUCH harder to go and become a Famicom collector (I admit that the recent popularity of my site might have helped lead to that. :-[)
That being said, good luck if you ever do! I've taken a long break for a while, but I really must soon get back into it. |

I just picked up the ones I like. If it's something I need english to play...then I get the english version. I got myself a wonderful nes to famicom adapter. I think it's fun, definitely cooler than having the US versions

The quality of some games are stunning and the sound of some are superb. I collect everything so i don't mind that much. As long a's it's 8bit or retro it's fine with me. What i like alot about fami are the different colour cases they used.

I've not been collecting Famicom games for long mostly concentrating on PAL and US releases (as per my sig) but having recently started on the Fami side its actually surprising to see just how different the two markets were. Everytime I go to buy a US cart for example I always find myself being drawn to the Fami section of eBay as its just that much more interesting.

I usually pick up the japan only releases. For example Splatterhouse, never made it to the US and EU market. Great game, exspensive but great.
