Title: Messiah NEX,I haven't been on here for a long time
Post by CobraTriangle on 14. Oct 2008 at 05:44
I was just wandering if this was a good buy or not, I use it alot of the time, and I'm just looking for some feed back from other fans of some of the best games ever made. I was also wandering if the slot for famlcom games, if it translates or not. I'm sure that is just wishful thinking, but it would be a real nice feature.  I have seen some great buys for famicom games on ebay, and I was just wandering if I would need somehelp knowing what to do in the game.  I understand that we only need two buttons, but like that could be more confusing than playing a game today in another language that one would not know.  Well, I'll be back on in lick another month or so, but really, I wanna come back here more often. I'm always forgetting my password.

I dunno, you can also buy a NES, disable the lock out chip and done.
I think a NES console is cheaper, buy one, clean it and game on i would say. I
heard some games do not work on NEX or at least not proper, correct me if i'm wrong though.

The NEX is a pretty poor Famiclone I'm afraid. Works with about 70% of games and causes glitches to graphics and sound. Something to do with the cheap NES chip they used.

Out of interest, did Messiah sell other products, or just the NEX and its wireless controllers?

They also had cartridge protectors :-)

Thanks Martin.  I was wondering why Messiah closed down?  I've done a little googling and can't find the answer.  Was it bad management?  Bad product?  I looked on Amazon.com and there are no Generation NEX available, so it seems like the product sold well enough, even if it wasn't perfect?

I don't know why they closed down either, but have been searching for the answer too....

Could be that they just quietly closed down when the stock was gone.

I think the NEX will end up becoming a clone collectable (like the NASA).   I know I still want to get one.

I read that on VintageComputing, once people realized it was just an overpriced NES-on-a-chip based device that couldn't play, say, Castlevania III, word spread and people stopped buying.

True... I and received a major slap in the face from the Atari Age community for saying that :-)

I bet what also sped up its demise  were the dual systems with NES and SNES together.

From what I've read, there's 4 games that do not work, and many of the NEX trouble makers work on that system.
