Title: Help with AV hookup - bad pic - new pin in
Post by tripp on 22. Oct 2008 at 21:48
Hello,

I am new to the old school Nintendo collecting and have recently acquired a rather large collection of games and a system from a buddy of mine during a move.  My first original and I am 30.  Man, what a long wait!

I just replaced the pin connector and it seems to work fine.  However, I cannot get a picture on my TV.

I want to use the AV cables for it but the back of the system only has a slot for "power, ch3-4, RF Switch"

How do I use the AV cables for this?  All the FAQ's I have seen regarding it shows an audio and video connection on the back of the Nintendo.

Thanks - Tripp

Hi There,

Are you from France? Because only there where nes systems sold that can use av cable.

A nes is hooked up by a normal power cable and a audio/video cable,so unless you have a 'special' av nes you need to hook it up that way.

I think your trying to hook up a nes with a snes av kabel :-? thats not going to work.

After being a moron - i found the outputs on the side of the unit.  DUH

Now, however, all I get is a grey screen.  IF I try it with nothing in it, it blinks like it normally would.

Any suggestions?

these systems are old tripp

try try and try again, blow in the carts and what sometimes helps is putting the nes cart just in.
Also try multiple games

Bah - i hate it when I cant figure this out.

After doing some research, I tried disabling the lockout chip and that doesnt seem to have worked either....

I cleaned the contacts on the board where the 72 pin connector goes, cleaned the video and audio output connections, and cleaned the games.

Still getting gray screen no matter what.

I get a badly distorted picture about once in a 100 tries rigth now, so it has to be a connection somewhere.   I was actually able to play MB but couldnt see jack.

I take it I need to tack the pin off again and try cleaning the contacts there, as well as the game some more?

IT seems to me it isnt seating properly in the console, rather than just being dirty

IS that because the game genie has a thicker board?  I thought that is what messed up the pins before?

BTW:  I dismantled it again and cleaned everything and same thing is happening.  On to ebay for a GG

Nope - it's def. system related....I have been able to replicate it on MB1, 2, 3, Road Runner, RBI baseball, Excite Bike, and Rad Racer

I'm wondering if I got a bad pin connector...

Know a reliable source or a seller on eBay?  I bought mine on ebay from video-game-wholesaler - it came in a seald bag.
