Title: New Member here with Questions! :)

Recently purchased from a friend a NES, 6 controllers, a joypad controller, 2 Light Zappers, 40+ Games to include TMNT, Marios 1 -3, Dragon Warrior 1+2 with box and maps, Crysalis, Ninja Gaiden, Metal Gear Solid, to name a few popular titles, for a 100$USD.  Quite a steal in my opinion, my buddy really didnt know what we had.

Few Questions... The NES takes multiple tries to run, but once running runs perfectly. When attempting to run, there is static sound and a glitchy looking screen and the power light flashes. When the game runs fine out of 100 tries, the power light is stable and the picture is excellent. I am not using AV cables. What could possibly be the problem, and where or what do I need to purchase parts?

I went a head and bought a 72 pin connector to replace the one inside as ive been told it has never been replaced, but beyond that I don't know what other issues it might have. Any suggestions feedbacks or "needed parts" would be awesome.

And whats the proper liQuid/solution for cleaning games and the system, and the method? Are air dusters, water and cloth towels ok?
I have the ancient NES cleaning kit in the box but its a little worn and dated.

Ive been browsing the forums and also noticed info on the lockout chip and people removing it, what is this, how do you remove it and what benefit does that give?

Also, in the games purchased was a black NES cart that looked different from all the others, and was called Puzzle! by American Video Entertainment. Just curious if this is one of those pirate carts. Havent plugged it in yet.

Sorry for the n00bish Questions just want to get this started off in the right direction for the years of enjoyment to come. I appreciate any and all feedback and many thanks to the designers of this awesome site and forums.

Welcome aboard the ship, just feel free to ask,no probs here.

I think you need to remove the lock out for sure. Here's some info on that bro, it helps you play other region games for instance PAL released games (games released in Europe).

Also a game genie makes the game fit better in the NES so it worls almost 99% when you stick it in. You dan't have to use the cheats, it just fits better in between the pin connector and the NES game. You can easily pick them up on eBay in loose state for a couple of bucks.

Puzzle is an unlicensed game, not a pirate. Some count them and some don't. If you ask me i count almost everything, even pirates.

I use Ethanol to clean my carts. Sounds like you have some good games with it  :)

Heres a handy vid on modifying the NES lockout chip. Its very easy and doesnt require any skill:

Yep thanks! Ill have to try Ethanol. Saw a video guy using brasso, and a half water half 70% isoprop alchohol to clean the games. He also had a gamebit screwdriver, which Im trying to find...

My new 72pin connector comes tommorrow so we'll see how that works. Also picked up a copy of Genghis Khan. been wanting to play that for years. Also if anyone has a copy of Romance of the Three Kingdoms id love to take it off your hands. Anyways thanks for the feedback :)

If anyone knows where I can find a gamebit cheap locally or online can you post a link?

Thanks guys!
