Title: troubleshooting
Post by jesseturner34 on 13. Jan 2010 at 16:13
There's an issue with my NES.  I know it's not the games because the problem is universal amongst them.  The moving characters in the games are either blotchy or backwards.  I have included (3) screen shots.

Here's what I have done so far:
-replaced the 72pin connector (new)
-cleaned the connector base on the motherboard
-disabled the fourth pin on the regulating chip
-switched out my RCA video cable
-cleaned the inner console areas.

The are no pins that are cross-connected that I can tell.  It appears there is no damage to the motherboard either.

Can anyone help me please?  I'm sure it's something very simple that I'm just not aware of.

Limited tech knowledge here.

What's messed up are the "sprites"  -- that is, the moving characters in the game, which are technically seperate in a way from the background graphics.

I'd open it up again and go at it with a can of compressed air.  Blow out real good near all of the chips and see if that doesn't clear up the problem.  Also make double sure that leg 4 that you clipped to disable the lockout chip isn't coming in contact with anything.
