Titles? I can make most of them out... but there are a few without text on them.

I'll try to get a new picture of my protos soon, I'm at around 50 now (woot!) heh

Around 50 :o wow puts my carts to shame.

-turok 3
-turok 3 (2)
-frogger 2 unreleased (will be dumped)
-chameleon twist 2
-batman beyond
-madden
-south park rally (great looking cart)
-mace the dark age (early version)

Yeah but most of my stuff is uninteresting... early version of Mace eh? hmm you should post some shots sometime :-)

Turok 3 seems to be the most common proto out there, I own 3 different ones, from near final to final (preview).

The mace cart is very interresting. I bought it because its 1 of my favorite n64 games(yeah really).
But its a cart that is used over and over again.
The label of the cart says mace, but this ntsc mace also was a french hexen? and there is at least 1 label under that maybe 2. :o
I don't think i will be able to control myself and ripp them of eventually to see whats under.
Whats even more interresting is the pencil writing on the cart.I thought it said review, but if i hold it in the light the right way its says previews :-?
The cart comes from a french seller that also sold me a french south park rally proto that seems a review cart(compaired it to youtube movies)
The french south park rally was directed to the french player 1 magazine.
This is a total gues but could this be a preview cartridge where previews where put on for magazines?
Sad that the old info is not on it anymore :-[
Im thinking about making a review of mace for nesworld.
Without giving to much away, all i can say now is that mace is a core preview game and that compaired to the released version you can see perfectly where details where put.
And yes turok 3 :D i can confirm 10 prototypes :o
Biggest number of prototypes ever i think.
The game was hyped like you said ,but the bankrupt of acclaim helped throwing them out there.

Its rough Martin.

I played it only shortly but that was enough to see its different.
Like i said its the games core and you can see how they pimp games ..what i mean.

-no intro (the book)
-no text on vs screen
-secret characters are not secret
-the excecutioner is red not black is he covered with blood or color change, nintendo cencured?

that's what i saw in 10 minutes without comparing serieus.

Are the chips inside the protos EPROMS like in NES carts, or are they much smaller chips?

I find the N64 development very interesting.  I have a bookmarked link where a person wrote a NES emulator that runs on the N64.  I can't even get my emulator fully working on a modern PC, let alone run at full speed.

N64 protos use flash chips... I used to talk to the guy responsible for RockNES64 (aka. vNES64), but I think the one you're referring to is the one by Halleys Comet Software right? :-)

Neon64 was the emulator I was thinking of.
The author kept a blog of his earlier work here:
http://hcs.freeshell.org/neon64.cgi?old
I used to refer to it when trying to see where I should focus while working on my emulator.
I never got even close to all the functionality he has, and I think I put in way more hours.

A little teaser :-)

F to Select, G to cancel... .WTF! :-)
Anyway the proto is extremely early, championship mode is unavailable and arcade mode only has 3 boxers. There's no sound and most of the intro is missing. In boxing matches the camera goes nuts when a knockout is made. The analog stick doesn't work, neither does the A and B buttons.
