GPS game found
13. Aug 2006 at 16:28

Yesterday i checked some games i bought months ago. Suddently i see a game with GPS code! Funny thing is that no one knows what GPS stands for or where they were sold. My copy is bought from France and it have a french sticker on the back and an extra french manual. I have also found a GPS game in Germany. The GPS manuals are only in english, which is strange since its PAL-B.

SWEET FIND.  Not many of these are known to exist.  That is one of the 2 known games that have that code that I know of.  I bet your thrilled, I know I would be.

lol ye, who knows what it stands for Wink Some think it stands for Greece, Portugal and Spain, but i doubt that. It would be logical for Portugal to have ESP game and did Greece even have NES?

Indeed, i just took out the game to see if it was complete and suddently i see the GPS code Cheesy The game i mentioned from Germany is Little Nemo. I also discovered Chessmaster with GPS code. Most likely that one also came from Germany. I've had that one too for quite some time before i noticed the GPS code hehe. Since both these games most likely came from Germany i think maybe that the G stands for Germany. Still leaves out P and S tho.

I also think i have Rad Racer GPS, but its sealed so i cant know for sure. The reason why i think its GPS is because the guy who sold it had multiply copies. A friend of a friend bought Rad Racer from the same guy i got it from. He opened it and saw the GPS code. I've seen Rad Racer (not sealed) with GPS code for sale before so i know it excist atleast Smiley

I knew about Mario & Yoshi, and Chessmaster with the GPS codes, but didn't know about Rad Racer and Little Nemo.  Could you possibly gets a pic of them for me?  I am going to add them to the game list database.

Is French the only language on the back label? Any way you could take a quick pic of it and post it? I'd love to take a closer look!

Thanks,

Sure, here is the pic Smiley The box is originaly in english, but the importer or store have put a sticker on the back. While we are on the subject i took a picture of how Bergsala did it with Hammerin Harry. You can see that HH is imported from Spain (says Spaco in down right corner) and that they put a sticker with swedish text on it. I guess they did it like this to save money Smiley

Ok, I'm thinking it's the "P" is definitely for Portugal, since the sticker is in Portuguese (not Spanish). Perhaps the "G" is for Germany and the "S" is for Spain or Scandanavia. I dunno Sad

Or.. doesnt the text looks like Portuguese? Shocked It also says that portugese manual is included, but it isnt (could have been removed of course). Its another sticker too that says french manual is included. Is it possible that only a few games got released in Portugal with the GPS code? Man.. this is wierd!

EDIT: ye, its wierd. I think the P is also for Portugal now.

That red sticker is also on NTSC Color Dreams games from France, so I have a hunch that it's on games that were imported in France...which would explain the included French manual and the missing Portuguese manual.  Hence, I don't think GPS is from France, and is likely from at least Portugal like you guys have mentioned already.  It's also funny that it says European Version on the GPS ames, since the only other games that have that are FRG games, correct?

Ye, its most likely imported. They did that in Sweden too. Like you have a SCN version of Tale Spin, but you also have a ESP version that was sold there (i heard in big food stores). As manual it was the original spanish and a printed paper with swedish instructions hehe Smiley

Its not only the FRG (Austria) games that says European version. I checked 2 NOE (Germany) games right now, Donkey Kong Classics and Tetris 2 and both says European Version. Im pretty sure that Zelda 1 and 2 + the earlier games of SCN also says european version. My guess is that the games (maybe all?) that were made by Nintendo had european version on them. Super Mario Bros 3 also have it.
