Grand Theftendo

The teaser for Grand Theftendo looks killer. I always feel envious, the guys over at AtariAge always have tons of Homebrews to talk about but we don't get a whole lot except for Pirate japanese carts and such.

Anyone know more info? That site has none and just 5 pics. Price? Is it a "send your donor to me" thing (which would be great to keep costs down) like some other services online?

Also I don't ever remember breaking into anywhere with lockpicks to steal wine, I guess it's all new stuff not a rehash of I and II...killer...

Actually last I heard, he stopped using a real mapper and started using his own made up one.  This means that we won't be seeing it on a real cart.

It will therefore be an emulation only release which kinda destroys a lot of the magic for me...  He is a hardware guy, so maybe he somehow plans to release his mapper...

If it wont be possible to make this on a real cart it would really sux. I would try it for sure, but it aint that fun and you dont get the real feeling when you play it on an emulator.

Agreed. If it's emulator only really, what's the point. The computer's the game system upon which I play Solitaire. There was a cool Dreamcast Mod to fit it into a toaster with the CD tray loading out the cart slot...

Images are gone but the NFO still remains. Anyways that would make it feel a little better Smiley But then afterwards playing Crazy Taxi would ruin the illusion lol

Yeah, but he also started out using MMC5.  There aren't many MMC5 games worth destroying for a repro...  Wink

What games uses MMC5 chip btw? I know Castlevania 3 for sure and i've heard both MMC3 and 5 for Kirby's Adventure. I wouldnt destroy a CV3 copy for a repro Sad

Bandit Kings of China, Castlevania 3, Gemfire, Laser Invasion, L'Empereur, Nombunagas Ambition 2, Romance Three Kingdoms 2, and Uncharted Waters are all mmc5.

Yeah, some website say's that Kirby is MMC5, but it's not true.  It's MMC3.

Even beyond the small list with no commons, many of the above games have different boards and configurations.  There may only be a couple of the above games that would be configured to easily make a grand theft repro from.  I don't know why he changed to his own mapper, but I'm kinda glad.

That's right.  Kirby is 100% typical MMC3 with battery.  Another thing to consider is if the MMC5 board has backup battery and video ram or not.  I'm sure this game will require both, at which point the number of available boards goes down even further!

The only worth while reproduction that currently uses an MMC5 is Just Breed.  It's much better than most of the games listed above, and I'm sure Grand Theftendo would be worth the sacrefice of anotehr MMC5.  Smiley

I'd sacrifice a CV3 cart for a cartridge copy of Grand Theftendo.  Those other Koei games are much harder to find, but CV3 is so common it wouldn't bother me that much.

You'd sacrifice a Castlevania 3 before ripping up a Laser Invasion? I'll trade ya Smiley
