Power Glove Compatibility (PAL Console)
21. Aug 2006 at 23:37

I live in England, so I have a PAL NES. I bought a Power Glove from someone in America and it doesn't work. I was wondering if it's because it's an American controller on a PAL console. I've cut the lockout chip and it still doesn't work.

When I turn the console on, the lights on the LED panel come on straight away, rather than after pressing start or select. I can get some beeps out of the glove, but that's all. Using it on different games usually comes up with a different reaction. On some of them it automatically starts the game, then sometimes the character goes off in a random direction.. On other games, nothing happens at all.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Have you put up the sensors around the TV properly? If so, it seems to me that the glove is broken. Nintendo doesnt have any region on their controllers, atleast not for NES. I can say that with 99% accuarcy.

Are you sure?  I read on the German forums that NTSC controllers are 100% not compatible with PAL consoles.  I do know that PAL controllers work on my NTSC toploader, although all of the wireless joysticks that I bought from PAL regions don't seem to work at all on it.  It may be due to the different electricity standards, since wireless controllers (the receivers that is), and I think the Power Glove as well IIRC, are powered by the NES itself.

I would have to agree with Speedy.  I would think they wouldn't work.  I am very suprised this hasn't been brought up before.

I have had problems with 3rd party SNES controllers from USA, but i cant recall any other problems. On the other hand, i havnt bought much NES hardware from USA. I do have 2 controllers in box that i bought over a year ago. I think i've tested both without a problem, but i cant recall right now. I will try when i get home from work.

Huh what kind of tv do you have?

A modern tv  plasma ,lcd can't always pick up the infrared signal.
My zapper doesn't work on my new plasma but on a old little tv it works fine.

I just tried a normal controller and a MAX controller (both bought from USA) on my PAL console and they both works without any problem. The glove is special tho so it might be compability issues. I was thinking that maybe the PAL/NTSC signals had something to do with it, but what i can remember the sensors are only connected to the NES. Its different with the Zapper. Its programmed to work on 50/60Hz CRT TVs. So if you have a 100Hz or plasma/LCD TV it wont work. Without being sure, i dont think thats the issue here since the glove got its own sensors, the Zapper uses the TV as sensor.

However, i have had some 3rd party SNES controllers as i mentioned. Some of these worked on a german SNES, but not on a scandinavian SNES. The NES i tried the 2 controllers on now is scandinavian. Maybe its something simular with other NES hardware too?

The glove doesn't use a signal from the TV. You put sensors around the TV and the glove communicates with them.

I've tried Program 14, which should mean the pad on the wrist works like a normal NES Pad with the sensors not affecting it.

I'm aware SNES pads from one region don't work in another region, which is why I was thinking the Glove had compatibility issues.

As I said, I've cut the lockout chip and tested that the console works with an American game. I would have thought making the console region free would have meant the controller would work.

I still haven't had a definitive answer on whether or not the Power Glove should work on a UK system.

Someone from England on another forum said they had the same problem and got it fixed but they haven't gotten back to me yet.
