It might be broken then Sad Dont have so much experience with it, but if you get your hands on a toploader and it still doesnt work its most likely defect.

I'm not giving up on it yet, but I am preparing to consider it broken if nothing works out. Cry

It'll just be the mystery cart in my NES collection.

pirate carts don't have a lockout chip on it so it doesn't mind wheter it's PAL or NTSC; it should load in a top loader or in a modified NES. If it doesn't load it's because: a) it's dirty b) it's broken, being a) the most probable.

p.d i don't think that pirate pal carts exist, all of them must be NTSC because all pirate carts are for the famicom and its clones.

Are you sure about that? There are lots of pirates in 72-pins or with board adaptors that allow them to be 72-pins that were released by the pirate companies in Asia, Brazil and other places without the authorities in place to rein them in.

But yes, I agree that with a modified frontloader or a regular toploader, most, if not all, pirate carts should work.

Let's say the cart is dirty, what would be the best method to clean it back into working condition? I've tried rubbing alcohol about half a dozen times and is still gives me a grey blinking screen.

Any other suggestion to try and get this game working would be greatly appreciated.

Some try an eraser. You'll need to remove the case to get in properly and scrub it. Sometimes even just removing the case and using q-tip and alcohol is enough since you've got a lot more leverage on the connectors.

Here's another approach...

There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, where the sea is asleep and the rivers dream; people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, and somewhere else the tea is getting cold. Come on, Ace, we've got work to do.

what i meant is that all pirate carts are made thinking in that they'll be played on a famicom or a clone, and that's why they don't have a lockout chip (the famicom nor its clones have one). Famicom clones in Europe are not clones of a NES, are clones of a Famicom despite they've copied the "external" look of a NES. And as pirates copied its looks they had to copy the looks of it carts. That's what i said that i don't think that pirate pal carts exist. All this carts are NTSC carts.

About cleaning carts i saw once at nesdev bbs an interesting link wich may be helpful http://users.zoominternet.net/~sgazi/cleaning/game_clean.html I've never tried it because i've been able to make work my carts with alcohol so i don't know if it works or not...

p.d using sandpaper is not a good idea because it' removes part of the conductor layer or the contacts...
