Looking for a new NES system - any advice?
19. Sep 2006 at 20:59

Hey guys! Great board - I've spent the last hour going thru posts checking out all of the cool stuff I missed out on as a kid!

I'm looking to pick up a new NES System after raiding my mom's garage and reclaiming all of my old games. Can you guys point in the right direction of one of the newer NES systems out there that it's a POS?

I'l looking at a few on Ebay in the $10 - $30 range, all from knockoff companies. I'm ok if it's a knockoff, but if it doesn't take my old joystick and can't play the games correctly then it's a no go.

Any advice on models, companies, etc??

Someone here probably has an extra spare original NES or two that I am sure you could probably get for $30-$35 shipped.  Those knockoffs tend not to work with every game.  I'd stick with the real thing.  Hopefully someone can help you out!

The best value for your money is getting a new 72 pin connector, but if you don't mind the slightly lower quality, you can try to find an NES 001 Top Loader for cheap.  Of course, if Famicom floats your boat...

What the hell is bootsy boo-boo?
I would suggest to go to a flea market and find a working front loader, they`re usually around 20$.

Of course, for every NEX fan, there are about five who hate it, so it's hard to say (since I have never owned one).  It seems like there must be two different models out in the wild: one that works, and one that is utter crap, if all the different reviews I've read are to be believed.

I would just go with the original.  It's too hit-or-miss with the clones, and to me, these games just have to be played on the original, or you might as well emulate (which I also don't recommend, and I come from a heavy ROM-playing background).

Well I've read 4 or 5 things on it and all were good, I haven't done much research ebyound that, but if they have a few minor problems I think we should give them the benefit of the doubt, they are trying to keep us in the game longer.
