Strange problem
23. Oct 2006 at 01:01

My NES wont stay powered on.  It will turn on and the game will be working than after about 1-2 seconds it shuts off, than turns back on, than shuts off over and over again....it just wont stay on.  It doesnt matter if there is a game in there or not.  Would this be a problem with my ac adapter?  Cry

Its probably just the 72 pin connector. Have you tried cleaning the game and the system? I always use rubbing alcohol and a q tip.

Are you sure, 350F?  It looks like there's something with the power.  Are you sure it's not the outlet itself?  I had my TV turn off a couple of times for some strange reason then turn back on.

It's never done that before. Shocked

well 350F, like I said it doesnt have anything to do with a game because it will do this whether there is a game even in the system or not.  Its not the outlet because I had the tv plugged into the outlet too and it was fine.  I actually got it to play a game for about 10 minutes earlier than it went back to turning on and off again.

Are you using an official NES AC adaptor?

could be the a/c adaptor.

if you clean it and it still does it, it is the a/c adaptor.

if it's not the adaptor then your console might be fried

its a generic ac adapter, not one specifically made for the NES so thats why I was thinking maybe that is the problem.  Im not sure why that would matter though.  I hope my unit's not fried.  I'm kind of surprised no one else has heard of this problem happening before.

If it does it to a consistent rythm then I would say it is definately the 72 pin connector.  If it will stay on for two seconds, then off, then on for three and so on then it probably is your adapter.

The red light on the front of the nes is blinking on and off correct msobad?  I think your way of saying things has confused some.  It's not often that the "blinking nes syndrome" is described in the way that you said it.  With the blinking nes the nes is turning off and on, but it's usually just described as "I just get a blinking red light and my screen kinda flashes on and off".  It's most likely either dirty carts, a dirty internal connector, or a bent internal connector.

First try cleaning your cart contacts with q-tips and rubbing alcohol.  If that doesn't work, you can get a replacement 72 pin connector off of ebay.

Okay, how long does it stay off?  It sounded like you meant it would turn off & back on again as if it were working.

it will be on for 2 seconds than off for 2 seconds and so on and so forth.  So even though the power button is pushed in it wont stay powered on for more than seconds before it turns off, than back on and over and over again.

Okay then, it's a blinking problem.  The power isn't turning off - it's a problem with the connectors.  They're probably really dirty.
