I'm sorry, I don't know much about ringtones, because I don't have a cellphone, but Laura's MIDI Heaven was doing it for a while on accident. Grin

But the whole paying for videogame ringtones thing is kind of wrong because it infers that royalties are going to the original composers, which aren't, because most people get their ringtones from MIDIs which come from VGMusic, & I know for a fact that sometimes we can't identify the original composers when we sequence MIDIs.

Making money off of selling copyrighted music ringtones is illegal as well.

So in conclusion, you should be able to download NES ringtones for free. Smiley

I got mine in a package deal off 3Gupload.com.  I got SMB, Bionic Commando, and Mike Tyson's Punchout.  They had a few others also.  They even had an old scholl Doom one from the PC days, good stuff.  Like 9.99 for unlimted downloads for a year.

I used a theme from Doom on my last cell. The phone wasn't able to play the drums in the midi-file, it was still cool though. Now I use mp3s.

You will find alot of midi files here: http://www.vgmusic.com/
Midi isnt very NES like tho, so i recommend you to convert nsf files to mp3 instead, if your cellphone supports mp3 that is.

Heya Rhett, this thread inspired me to try my hand at making a small mp3 file for a ringtone.  I used a snippit from the Bayou Billy boss music.  It wasn't too hard to make, so if you would like me to make one for you (or anyone else for that matter), just let me know.  I'm probably going to make a section on my site for NES mp3 ringtones now Smiley  Here's the one I was just talking about if anyone wants to check it out in their phones:

http://roth.zhxhome.net/tones/aobb.mp3

Critique too, please.  That way I can make them as good as I can.  Remember to test it in a cell phone first, too.

That's awesome Roth, and something that would be unique to anyones site.  (For now!)  THe only thing I could think of is it lasting maybe 15 seconds, some people have a long ring setup.

Is it hard to format them for a phone, or is it pretty easy?

Off the top of my head, the SMB 1 main theme, Zelda over and underworld theme, and the main SMB 3 theme, and the start screen theme on Wizards & Warriors would be on my want list.  Those should be popular enough for other people to want them also.  But don't do them just for me yet, I haven't got the dl cables for my phone.

I'll be working on that, though.

I used to program tones on my phone when I was bored. My fav was the boss theme to Mega Man 2, although I also put the intro theme to Kid Icarus in since it was a nice happy short one.

There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, where the sea is asleep and the rivers dream; people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, and somewhere else the tea is getting cold. Come on, Ace, we've got work to do.

Hey, I made those tones that you listed above not too long ago.  I made a page for them now:

http://roth.zhxhome.net/music/ringtone.htm

If there are any other requests I'll go ahead and do them for anyone that wants some :)

Well my cellphone is almost to the point of being tits-up anyway.  I'll wait until my academy is done and sign up for a two year contract for a new one. (Academy is out in the boonies, I doubt I have cell service there.)

THanks for making those.  I appreciate it.

Cool stuff! Keep up the good work, Roth! Smiley

I'd love to see a Faxanadu Password screen ring tone!

Cheers,

Just go to the page with the ringtones on it with your Internet phone browser:

http://roth.zhxhome.net/music/ringtone.htm

Then when you're browsing, click on the ringtone you want.  I'm pretty sure that most phones will download it and automatically stick it in your Audio folder.  If you have anymore questions, don't hesitate to ask ;)

Any more requests by chance?
