Whoa...Bomberman is actually Lode Runner!

Did you know that Bomberman is actually Lode Runner?  This is something I just found out.  Check this out:

Ending of Bomberman

Screenshot of Lode Runner

On a sidenote...Lode Runner is actually a Broderbund game, not a Hudson Soft game.  Cool

Links work fine for me. Smiley

As for the games, I've played neither so I can't comment on my surprise.

That is surprising. I would of never guessed it. Guess Hudson and Broderbund were working together.

There are 50 stages to Bomberman.  I think the manual implies that the game is beatable.

I've beaten Bomberman, but thought that message implied another "Bomberman" sequel.  I haven't actually played Lode Runner, but noticed the Bombermen people in screenshots before.

Now the circle is complete. Cool

Not 100% certain on this, but I'm pretty sure Hudson developed Lode Runner, and licenced it to Broderbund...might solve that little riddle...

When you beat the famicom version of Bomberman, it explicitly states (in English) that Bomberman is Loderunner, so there's no second-guessing about it.

I don't know why they changed the ending of the US release into a pseudo-mystery cliffhanger.

...

This is a big problem with the video game industry, when a publisher slaps their name all over a title with no indication of the developer.  That would be like saying Paramount created Godfather in the movie industry.

On a side note, who developed Resident Evil 2 for the N64?

Lode Runner was definitely developed by Broderbund. I used to play it on the Apple II way back when. It was probably licensed to Hudsonsoft for sale in Japan.

Hudson developed the NES version, even though Brøderbund published Douglas E. Smith's development on the Apple II, PC, & Commodore 64..
