I just got my new 72 pin connector fitted into my Nintendo, but it doesn't look too good...

with every game I play, there are color changing lines all over the screen changing the bits of the background color they cover to colors they should not be (for example: Yellow and red sky in Super Mario Bros 3, Blue and Green sky in Battle of Olympus etc... ) .

Looks like my attempt to get my Nintendo repaired (Dad repaired it for me) was a failure. I NEVER got those color changing lines before.

*starts to cry*

I WASTED 15 DOLLARS ON NOTHING!
I WANT A WORKING REAL NES!
I DON'T WANT TO GO VIRTUAL CONSOLE!

errr...

On closer inspection, it is just some picture problem I have always had with the console (I have had the same with the Super NES) :

The picture is jaggedy regardless what gamescreen you use.

HOWEVER...

The color changing lines are visible on an LCD monitor, but are not on a CRT TV.

Maybe I should talk to a professional repair center.

You mention repaired, would that include anything more than changing the connecetor? Alot of the new connectors are very shitty quality. I was trying to fix a NES myself not long ago and i tried 2 new connectors. After inserting games like 30 times the gfx started to crappity smack up due to bad contact. I had to move the game "around" to find the exact right position so it would work like it was suppose to be. It was enought just to insert the game like you normaly do and play. I ended up finding an old and used original connector, bent the pins back and got it to work.

Next time i'm getting a new connector i'm investing in one of those gold ones instead. The original NES connector got gold on it. Gold leads electricity better so the contact between the connector and the game will be better.

Of course, it can be your NES thats crappity smacked too. You cleaned the game btw?

Does the board have any rust near the connector? I had like 8 different spares and one of the nes boards was rusty and damaged as hell. I was able to get a clear form of video after a long sanding of the board's connector and then a washing. In the end the video was still gargled, even after a tested working 72 pin connector...It more or less worked when it wanted to.

In this case I salvaged everything but the board.

I used a gold connector once. I wasnt to happy with it. It seeems the extra plating adds another layer to make the pin even tighter. If you have any sweat on your hands at all, it makes it impossible to get the game out of the system. Now i use regular pin connectors and just make sure i clean the boards connection just like im cleaning a cart. Works very well.

But did the games work every time? I never tried a gold connector myself, but next time im going to get a new connector its going to be a gold one. The problem you describe with the game being damn hard to get out also applies to connectors without gold, so its not the extra layer of gold that does it. It gets looser after 50-100 times tho.

Jan 2007 at 19:00 Be careful about getting one with the gold on it. I hear it's just gold plating, and it wears off and gets pieces all around the inside of your NES.

Jan 2007 at 22:06 In the auction he mentions he's authorized by Nintendo and the 72 pin connectors come straight from the manufacturer. I don't really have any reason not to believe him. Mine came and it works great.

Hm.. ye i see it now. He doesnt say they are authorized by Nintendo tho, only that they are the only authorized sellers of connectors on Ebay. Wonder what he means since there are alot of people selling them there. Must ask him

I also think its wierd that he "bashes" all other sellers saying they arent the same quality as his. How on earth can he know that? Hes just assuming, doubtfully he bought from ALL sellers on Ebay whos selling connectors. I know there are crappy stuff out there, but he cant pull every other seller under one comb just because hes assuming.

Sure, i never said anything like that, dont get me wrong. I've bought lot of 12 connectors where maybe 40-50% didnt work properly so all tips are welcomed

I just had my doubts that the gold was painted on, but as i said earlier, i havnt tried it myself so i cant say if its true or not.

EDIT: I got the reply now. I asked what he ment with authorized seller and what the difference was between these connectors and the rest on Ebay. This is what he replied:
