New to Famicom, need some advice.
01. Feb 2007 at 03:19

I was hoping someone might be able give me some advice on pricing Famicom systems. I've been looking for a Famicom and a Super Famicom. What kind of price would be good, and prices on variations such as Famiclones and Super Famicom JR? I'd greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks

A Famicom alone should cost you no more than $45. You can probably get it for $30 if you're patient. A CIB Famicom could run you as much as $100; more if it's mint or new. New ones are much more expensive. The pricing for the Disk System runs about the same.

You shouldn't buy a Famiclone unless it's cheap, like less than $20, even CIB. Pirated consoles just aren't worth much and usually don't sell for much.

I don't know about the Super Famicom. I imagine it'd be about the same.

I'd say forget the super famicom.  Just cut out a couple of tabs in your US snes and all the JP games will play.

When I finally spring for a famicom, I'm going to make sure I get an AV famicom.  I think the rca plugs are so much nicer than the RF.

But isn't the RF Famicom better than the AV Famicom, sound-wise at least? I've heard people say that about the frontloader NES over the toploader.

I appreciate the advice. If anyone has any famicom games they would like to sell or trade, please let me know. I haven't got alot to trade right now, but I could put a list together if you are interested in any Sega Saturn stuff, Empty N64 boxes, or N64 Manuals.

The famicom AV doesn't have graphical problems like the toploader nes.

I've heard some say that the av plays the "extra sound" in some games (ie Akumajo Densetsu) louder than than the normal sound but then I've heard others say that theirs sounds perfect.  Then I've heard a few (but very few) who say that they have the same loudness issue with their regular famicom.  I don't know anything but some have said that it's caused by different brands of rf/power daughterboards.  Other just say that the new av famicom plays all sounds softer than the original but that the "extra sound" is played at the same level and that's what causes the issue.

I'd love to hear if you've heard more, and I'd love to hear from people who have had firsthand experience.
