Why the hell is Flintstones 2 so desired?
03. Feb 2007 at 02:19

Why the hell is Flintstones 2 so widely desired?  Sure it's rare, but it's not THAT rare.  There are other games that are harder to find yet still aren't nearly as valuable or desired as it.  Games like Wayne's World, Gun+Nac, Little Samson, Pro Sport Hockey, and several others are just as hard to find as it, yet don't seem to carry the same value.  I'd consider Flintstones 2 the most valuable licensed cart with the exception of SE, but really it shouldn't be.

It just seems like the word has spread about F2 and everybody seems to want it.  Perhaps its only a matter of time before people begin to discover what other games are truly rare.  Thoughts?

you right its mostly our fault when prices go up..once someone brings up the fact a certian item is rare it seems to start a frenzy for that cart....racermate is a good example 2 years ago you could find the cart for almost nothing..noe everyone wants one.

first off, it is one of the rental taito games.  second, i have noticed on here and dp that many people are getting down to the last 10-20 games they need, so people will pay more for it.  and yea, it is hyped up.

Same thing goes with Bubble Bobble Part 2.  I'd consider it the 3rd most valuable licensed game.  Sure the game is uncommon but there are probably around 50-75 games that are harder to find than it.  At least Bubble Bobble is a popular video game franchise so it makes sense that people want it.  The fact that Flintstones 2 is so valuable is beyond me.

Well,

It is pretty rare.  In the last year I think only 2 popped up complete on ebay.  I kind of get where you are coming from though Nick.  A person could go buy one on ebay just about any time he wanted to so it doesnt seem to be as rare as people think.  I have a theory though.

Most of the F2's listed on ebay are buy it now's.  These people realize what they have and are trying to get a premium for it.  Somewhere between $110-$140.  Now because these are overpriced, they don't sell very fast and are available for much longer periods of time, which in turn makes this cart available for purchase most of the time if you want to pay the price.  Its not nearly as often that you see a cart just up for open auction or in a lot of games.  This is due to the fact that the game really is pretty rare.  When one pops up like this, there are plently of people out there that refuse to pay the premium price for one and end up fighting over the open auction.....thus bidding it up to $90-$100 where the value of the cart currently lives.

I agree Nick, it is overpriced.  But I think the 3 Panesian games are WAY overpriced incompairson to them.  If you search ebay a lot, there is almost always one of the 3 Panesian titles on anymore.  At the minimum there is at least 2 listed per month.  There is no reason the game sales for 600+ bucks, it simply isn't "that" rare.  I think they got hyped up because of the nudity and Mike Etlers list made them more rare they they truly are to begin with, but in the end we the collectors drove the price of them up to the current selling point.

Hey look at it like this. The $600 panesians wont even be playable in the next 15 years. heh stupid people. Oh and dont forget caltron as being overpriced. Back 3 years ago sellers would be lucky to sell it over $50 bucks. At least Myriad 6 in 1 being the rarest NTSC release wont die since there are no eproms and it numbered so people know how rare it is but that game too is still wacked price. And yes i am saying it IS rarer that Stadium events.

The Panesians are DEFINITELY a better example than Flintstones 2.  There is no way I should be able to get a CIB Wayne's World for $30, which is just as hard to find as a $600 Panesian title.  It's ridiculious!

Stadium Events is hyped up too!  Granted it is the rarest licensed release, so you'd expect it to be valuable, but not THAT valuable.  It is hyped up because it has a cool story about how it was recalled and replaced with WCTM, which is the true reason why everybody wants it.

Hype is everything in terms of collecting.  Interesting stories is what it's all about.  How interesting is this:  Yeah, CIB Wayne's World is a hard to hell find because.....it was a late release.

Know what I mean?  And it isn't like that means the game will be seen as overtly rare forever...look at Tengen Tetris, the price for that loose has come down over the years.

There are PAL versions, but they are much more rare than the NTSC version in my opinion.  Good luck trying to track one down Wink
