Pricecheck: Sharp Famicomstation
12. Feb 2007 at 08:32
I've always found the Famicomstation (or the Famicombox) really cool, but since they're almost always only available from Japan I've never really considered buying one, thinking the final price including shipping would be way to high. I have however recently been offered one from a collector here in Sweden (including 10 carts), but as usual he wants me to make a bid, rather than setting a price tag on it himself. So... what would a reasonable price be? $200? $500? I've got no idea myself...

No more than $300 shipped, imo. You could likely get it for that price (or even less) from Japan. Remember that 10 games come with the Famicom Station. I wouldn't pay any extra $$ for those.

Depends on what shipping method thats used. This bitch is heavy hehe, like 10kg or so. I payed like $105 in shipping for mine and that was sent with surface mail, took a few weeks. With EMS it was nearly 3 times as much.
$300 incl. surface shipping seems like a good deal to me too, but remember that surface shipping isnt trackable or insured.

The FamicomBox is 16kg. So, I imagine the Famicom Station would be nearly the same.
BTW: I just bought myself a FamicomBox (with 10 games) from Japan. It cost me $80 for the system itself. Remember that the Famicom Station is kind of the "generic" version, so it should cost less. The shipping was outrageously high, at a little under $200. Shipping within country or region should be a bit cheaper. But I think still a decent deal overall, considering what the M82 can go for.

Someone else was willing to pay $500+ for it so I ended up not buying it. Yahoo JP sounds like the best place to buy one after all.

I also want one of these pretty badly. If anyone sees one for sale for a decent price please let me know. I never check Yahoo Auctions.

The FamicomBox obviously was more popular than the Famicom Station. So, you'll find more FamicomBoxes out there, though they'll cost more since they're Nintendo brand. There always are one or two FamicomBoxes on Yahoo! Japan. The best deal you can get is finding one with a busted controller or two. The Japanese hesitate to pay good $$ for one like that because NES controllers and light guns aren't easy to find in Japan. But since the FamicomBox controllers and light guns are the exact same ones sold here -- we've got no problem replacing them.

One of the few positives of Yahoo! Japan.

I have a guy in Japan who bids and mails stuff to me for a decent fee. But there are sites out there that can help you out. Beware of shipping and handling charges on those sites.
If you can't get your hands on one, let me know. I can help you out.
